The Alaska Judicial Council has begun its evaluations of the judges eligible to stand for retention in November of 2026. The Council’s process includes stakeholder surveys of attorneys, court employees, law enforcement officers, and social services professionals, as well as feedback from the public.

If you have experience with one or more judges in Alaska and you received a Judicial Council survey about the judges standing for retention, please remember to complete the survey before the deadline.

Next week, the Alaska Judicial Council will hold a meeting to interview these applicants, and a public hearing to receive comments regarding their qualifications. Four attorneys have applied to the Alaska Judicial Council for a position on the Alaska Court of Appeals, two attorneys have applied for a position on the Kotzebue Superior Court, three attorneys have applied for a position on the Anchorage Superior Court, and eleven attorneys have applied to a position on the Anchorage District Court.

The Judicial Council members will meet in May, 2026 to interview the applicants and to hold public hearings.
