🚔 Please join us in welcoming our newest members of the Pittsfield Department of Public Safety!

Since May, Claire Jordan, Kayla McCabe, and Chase Kemp have joined our team through our Police Academy Recruit Program as they begin their careers in law enforcement.

▪️ Claire Jordan earned her B.A. in Psychology from Michigan State University, making the Dean’s List every semester. She went on to complete the Washtenaw Community College Police Academy and is currently finishing her orientation before serving as a Police Officer.

▪️ Kayla McCabe graduated summa cm laude from Eastern Michigan University with a B.A. in Criminology before completing the Schoolcraft College Police Academy with her Law Enforcement certification. Since joining the Department full-time in May, she has progressed to Step 3 of her Police Officer training, continuing to develop the skills needed to serve our community.

▪️ Chase Kemp graduated with honors from Davenport University with a degree in Business Administration before pursuing a career in law enforcement. He completed the Washtenaw Community College Police Academy and is currently finishing his orientation before serving as a Police Officer.

We’re proud to welcome Claire, Kayla, and Chase to the Pittsfield Township team and look forward to the positive impact they will make in our community. Please join us in congratulating them and wishing them continued success as they begin this exciting chapter!

🚨 Junior DPS Academy — Cohort 2 is Underway! 🚨

Yesterday, October 5th, the Pittsfield Department of Public Safety was proud to kick off Cohort 2 of the Junior DPS Academy at Multicultural Academy!

Over the next five days, selected high school students will get a firsthand look at what it means to serve our community. Students will spend time learning from professionals in law enforcement, fire, EMS, and other areas of public safety, while developing valuable skills in leadership, teamwork, communication, and service.

The Junior DPS Academy is more than an introduction to public safety careers; it’s an opportunity to build relationships, inspire the next generation, and show our students the many ways they can make a positive difference in their community.

We are incredibly grateful to Multicultural Academy for partnering with us to make this program possible and for welcoming our public safety professionals into their school.

We’re excited for an incredible week with Cohort 2 and can't wait to see what these students take away from the experience!

💊 DEA NATIONAL PRESCRIPTION DRUG TAKE BACK DAY 💊

Last April, communities across the country came together to safely dispose of 642,410 pounds (321 tons) of unwanted medications. That brings the DEA’s all-time total to more than 21 million pounds!

Chief Patrick Gray was honored to represent Pittsfield Township Police Department alongside State Representative Morgan Foreman at today’s 9/11 remembrance ceremony. We remember those we lost, honor the courage of our first responders, and remain committed to the values of service and sacrifice. 🇺🇸 Never forget.

Today, the House held our annual ceremony to remember the lives lost on 9/11/2001 and extend our thoughts to the families who continue to carry the weight of that day. 25 years later, their resilience in the face of unimaginable loss is both inspiring and deeply moving.

It is also essential to extend our gratitude to the both the first responders who showed extraordinary courage in a moment of tragedy, as well as those in our communities who continue that commitment to public service every single day. I was honored to be joined by Pittsfield Charter Township Police Chief Patrick Gray, whose team embodies these values of service.

🚨 SEEING E-MOTOS ON OUR BIKE PATHS? HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW. 🚨

With the growing popularity of electric motorcycles and e-motos, we're seeing more of these vehicles being operated on bike paths and trails.

Here's the important distinction:

🚲 E-Bikes must meet Michigan's legal requirements, including having fully operable pedals and a motor of 750 watts or less.

🏍️ E-Motos that don't meet those requirements are motor vehicles. The Michigan DNR notes that e-motos may be classified as electric mopeds, motorcycles, dirt bikes, or other motor vehicles depending on their specifications.

🚫 Motorcycles, mopeds, and other motor vehicles cannot be operated on bicycle paths or sidewalks, except for limited circumstances.

Having an electric motor or even having pedals does not automatically make a vehicle an e-bike.

If you're riding an e-moto, know what you're riding and know where it can legally be operated.

Let's keep our bike paths and roadways safe for everyone.
