A local nature moment: a Red Admiral butterfly (Vanessa atalanta) perched on a Garlic Mustard bloom (Alliara petiolata), an invasive, edible biennial herbaceous plant.

This photo was taken during our 2024 Spring Park Cleanup Day at Sandra Richardson Park in Milan, MI.

The Red Admiral butterfly is known for being one of the "calm" butterflies that doesn't mind being around humans, and occasionally will land on people to obtain sweat!
