Producers: Check that all slow-moving vehicle signs are clean, bright and highly visible.

Drivers: Be patient when following large equipment and only pass when it is completely safe and legal to do so.

The Maryland Agricultural & Resource-Based Industry Development Corporation is offering reduced-cost financing through two loan programs to help those Maryland vineyard, hopyard and orchard growers impacted by the April 21 freeze.

Special relief terms include:

- Interest rates reduced by up to 50%.
- Reduced 0.25% origination fee.
- No lender referral or denial required to qualify.
- Support for producers who experienced production losses and other financial or operational impacts.

🍺🍷🥃 Calling Maryland’s craft beverage community! The Maryland Department of Commerce has two grant opportunities are now open to help grow and promote Maryland’s breweries, wineries, distilleries and vineyards.

The Maryland Alcohol Manufacturing Promotion Fund supports projects that promote Maryland-made craft beverages, strengthen agricultural business development and showcase Maryland as a destination for craft beverage lovers. Applications are due Oct. 13, 2026.

The Winery and Vineyard Economic Development Grant Program provides eligible wineries and vineyards reimbursement for up to 25% of qualified 2026 capital expenses to establish or improve operations. Applications are due Jan. 19, 2027.

The Sand County Foundation has announced the finalists for the 2026 Maryland Leopold Conservation Award!

These Maryland farm families are being recognized for going above and beyond to protect soil health, improve water quality and create wildlife habitat while keeping their working lands productive.

Congratulations go to Cold Springs Farm (Carroll County), Clear Ridge Farms & Clear Ridge Nursery, Inc. (Carroll County) and Lippy Brothers Farms (Baltimore & Carroll counties)!

The $10,000 Maryland Leopold Conservation Award recognizes farmers and forestland owners who inspire others through exceptional stewardship. The recipient will be announced and all three finalists recognized at the Maryland Farm Bureau Annual Convention in December.

The IRS has extended tax relief to eligible farmers who were forced to sell or exchange livestock due to drought conditions.

The extension provides qualifying producers with more time to replace livestock and defer taxes on gains from those sales.

To qualify, farmers must be able to show that the sale was due to drought and their area received a federal drought designation.
