If your allergies started earlier this spring and feel more intense or severe than they used to, you're not alone!

Climate change doesn't just mean warmer temperatures and unpredictable weather, it means a longer growing season for pollen-producing plants. For Mainers dealing with spring and fall allergies, this means both allergy seasons will last longer - and so will their allergy symptoms!

An earlier spring means plants have more time to grow and release their pollen, leading to symptoms like runny nose and itchy eyes for those with pollen allergies. It's not good news for Mainers with allergies, and it's just one more way climate change is impacting health.

Need to see a doctor about your allergies but don't have health coverage? Learning your health coverage options is a good place to start. Call 1-800-965-7476 to chat with a local expert for free. You can find out whether you're eligible for MaineCare, or may be able to enroll in Marketplace health coverage with a Special Enrollment Period.

Did you know that not all “health plans” are real health insurance? While some plans may use the word “health” in their name and seem to have a lower price tag, they often cost much more in the long run.

Unregulated plans often don’t cover the basic services, medicines, and costs that regulated health insurance plans are required to (Essential Health Benefits).

Unregulated plans often fall short when people need coverage the most! For example, someone may purchase an unregulated plan and then find out that it doesn’t cover the prescription medicines or maternity care they need.

Wondering if the "health plan" you're considering is real health insurance? Our experts can help you spot the warning signs and make sure you understand all your health coverage options.
