UPDATE - Traffic Advisory: US 62 west of Bardstown in Nelson County

Continuing work on Sympson Lake Dam will require reducing the road to one lane

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (July 31, 2026) – Motorists are advised traffic will be reduced to one lane along US 62 at Sympson Lake Dam just west of Bardstown in Nelson County. A contract for the next phase of the repair project announced in February has been awarded and work is scheduled to begin Wednesday, August 5th.

Temporary signals will be in use to allow alternating one-way traffic, similar to the configuration utilized in the previous phase of work. The single lane configuration will remain in place through the duration of the project, with completion expected about a year from now.

Motorists should slow down when approaching the area, pay close attention to signs and be prepared for stopped traffic ahead. Short delays will be possible, especially during peak traffic hours. Message boards are placed along US 62 approaches to alert motorists of the upcoming work.
