As temperatures rise and more people head to the water, remember to wear a life jacket, keep a close eye on pets and children, and always recreate safely.

This past weekend, Brush 1 was deployed with two BFD personnel to the Grey Fire near Greycliff, Montana, for a two-day mutual aid assignment supporting wildfire suppression efforts.

By the time crews arrived, the fire was largely secured within their assigned division; however, changing conditions caused the fire to expand approximately 40 acres in another division. Brush 1 personnel worked alongside county resources to assist with containment and mop-op operations.

Resources assigned to the incident included:
* 2 DNRC helicopters
* 2 dozers
* Multiple county, state, and federal resources
* Multiple overhead personnel

The Billings Fire Department is honored to assist our neighboring communities through mutual aid partnerships and wildfire response efforts across Montana.

After 20 years with the Billings Fire Department, today marks Chief Banfield’s last shift. With 36 years of dedicated Fire and EMS service to the Billings community, Chief Banfield has made a lasting impact on both this department and the citizens we serve.

Over the last five years, Chief Banfield has been an incredible leader and asset to the BFD EMS Division. Throughout his career, he helped guide the department from a BLS non-transport agency into a fully functioning advanced life support operation with 36 credentialed paramedics and a Crisis Response Unit.

Beyond the uniform, Chief Banfield is also known for keeping spirits high — whether it was showing off his dance moves or reminding everyone he could hold his breath for 15 seconds.

Chief Banfield will be greatly missed, and we thank him for his years of service, leadership, and dedication to the Billings community. We wish him nothing but the best in his next adventure!
