Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation

Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation We partner people who are blind with expertly trained German Shepherd Guide Dogs. Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation, Inc.

is an internationally accredited nonprofit with locations in Bloomfield and Wilton, CT. Fidelco has placed more than 1,450 guide dogs throughout North America. Each guide dog takes two years, 15,000 hours, and $65,000 to produce – yet all services are provided to clients at no cost. Fidelco relies solely on the generosity and financial support of individuals, foundations, corporations, and civic o

rganizations. Fidelco pioneered In-Community Placement in the United States, a process that allows guide dog users to be trained by professional instructors in the communities where they live and work. Fidelco clients receive 24/7 support for the entire working life of their guide dogs –typically 10 years. In addition, hundreds of German Shepherd Dogs are provided to law enforcement agencies, first responders, and search-and-rescue organizations to help protect our fellow citizens and keep our communities safe.

Has a special pet or person touched your life? You can honor or remember them with a beautiful garden stone.

The stones are engraved approximately one quarter inch deep using a sand carving process and then your personal message is painted in black with 30-year stone paint. Stones can be placed in Fidelco’s garden or shipped to you.

A huge thank you to Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo for partnering with us and allowing our dogs in training to visit the zoo this spring! 🐾

This experience was valuable on both sides — it gave our dogs exposure to a unique training environment filled with new sights, sounds, and distractions, while also giving the zoo an opportunity to observe how their animals responded to the presence of service dogs in a real-world setting.

While service dogs are not currently permitted in all areas of the zoo shown in these photos, Beardsley Zoo has been exploring animal comfort levels to see whether they may be able to expand accessibility offerings in the future. Throughout the process, the zoo has continued to prioritize what is best for both their guests and their animals.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to work together and appreciate Beardsley Zoo’s openness, collaboration, and support!
