Rye Patch Resevoir, located in Rye Patch State Recreation Area, has been placed under a HAB Watch Advisory due to a possible Harmful Algae Bloom.

Visual assessments have indicated a possible bloom. Water tests are currently being conducted by the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP). These toxic algae can cause serious health issues for humans and animals.

If you see water that looks discolored or smells bad, stay away. Pets should be kept away from all water bodies under a HAB advisory.

For more information on HABs visit nevadahabs.org

HAB you heard? Lahontan Reservoir is currently under a harmful algal bloom watch and if you’re heading to Nevada waters this holiday weekend, make sure you know what to look out for.

Watch for water that appears bright green, foamy, scummy, slimy or smells bad. Harmful algal blooms can be especially dangerous for people and pets, so if the water looks suspicious, stay out. Pets should always stay away from water bodies under a HAB advisory.

Stay up-to-date and learn more about HABs at nevadahabs.org.
