πŸŽ‰ Today we celebrated the Ribbon Cutting for our new 911 Communications & Emergency Operations Center in Shelby!

Chairman Kevin Gordon, Sheriff Alan Norman, and County Manager David Cotton each spoke at the ceremony, reflecting on what this facility means for our residents and first responders alike.

The new 8,000 sq. ft. facility includes offices, a training and meeting space, updated telecommunicator stations, and an Emergency Operations Activation Center β€” all designed to strengthen our emergency response capabilities for residents.

This $7.8 million project was made possible thanks to state and federal grants covering more than 75% of the cost, a true win for our county and the people we serve. πŸš¨πŸ“ž

The NC Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) is alerting residents to a rise in Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) EBT benefit theft through fraudulent transactions, including online purchases.

πŸ’³ Protect your benefits by taking these steps:

β€’ Manage your account only through the ebtEDGE mobile app
β€’ Check your EBT account regularly for unauthorized transactions
β€’ Change your PIN often β€” avoid easy sequences like 1234 or repeated numbers like 4444
β€’ Inspect card readers at stores for signs of tampering before swiping
β€’ Consider blocking out-of-state and online purchases through your ebtEDGE account or app

If you think your card has been compromised:

Immediately freeze your card through ebtEDGE, then contact the EBT Call Center at 1-888-622-7328 to request a free replacement card and report the theft to your local DSS agency.

⚠️ Important: Federal authorization to replace stolen FNS benefits ended on December 20, 2024. Stolen benefits cannot be replaced. Reporting to your local DSS documents the incident, but benefits will not be restored. We strongly encourage reporting theft to local law enforcement as well.
