Thursday, July 16, is a Code Red Air Quality Action Day for Particulates and Code Orange for Ozone for Delaware.

El jueves, 16 de julio, es un Día de Acción de Calidad del Aire de Código Rojo por Partículas y Código Naranja por Ozono para Delaware.

Jedi 16 jiyè, se yon Jou Aksyon Kòd Wouj pou Kalite Lè a anrapò ak Patikil, epi yon jou Kòd Zoranj pou Ozòn nan Delaware.

Today’s Forecast:
Thursday, July 16 is a Code Red Air Quality Action Day for Delaware. Westerly to west-southwesterly winds ahead of a cold front will transport smoke from Canadian wildfires into Delaware throughout the afternoon. This smoke, combined with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the mid- to upper-90s, will enhance ozone formation. Furthermore, a dense plume of smoke will arrive in the late evening as the front passes over the state. As a result, AQI levels are anticipated to be Unhealthy for PM2.5 and Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups for ozone.

Extended Forecast:

Friday, July 17 is a Code Red Air Quality Action Day for Delaware. Light northerly winds behind the departing front will carry dense wildfire smoke into the First State, increasing particle concentrations throughout the day. Furthermore, pollutant carryover from the previous day will be high. Thus, AQI levels are anticipated to remain Unhealthy for PM2.5 and mid-Moderate for ozone.

Saturday, a passing warm front will shift winds to southerly to southwesterly, which will gradually disperse dense wildfire smoke. In addition, scattered thunderstorms associated with the front will support mixing. However, a morning inversion will trap smoke near the surface, and pollutant carryover for the first half of the day will remain high. As a result, AQI levels are anticipated to be Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups for PM2.5 and low-Moderate for ozone.

NOTICE TO CHESWOLD RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES:

House Bill 472 (HB 472) was passed by the State Legislature, signed and approved into law by Governor Meyer on July, 6, 2026.

This Bill was generated and lawfully processed by the State Legislature and agreed to by the Town Council of the Town of Cheswold.

Effectively, HB 472 removed the section of Nobles Pond, which was previously annexed into the Town of Cheswold out of the corporate limits and boundaries of the Town.

This action has also resulted in a deficiency of four (4) Councilmembers; leaving only two (2) active Councilmembers. There is nothing in the Town Charter that directs action to be taken if this situation should occur.

This is a precedent setting situation, and a process resolution is currently being sought by the Special Legal Counsel of the Town.

Please be patient and attempt to understand that the Town is actively seeking to re-form a full working Council and it will happen as soon as legally possible.

Thank you.
