Community members recently came together to assemble backpacks, as part of Operation Backpack, filled with school supplies for local students supported by VOA Illinois. From packing notebooks and crayons to checking each bag to make sure it was ready for the first day of school, volunteers worked side by side to help set children up for success.

Take in the beautiful city views and welcome Shabbat under the stars.
Join CJE Metro and My Go-To Place, in partnership with Selfhelp Home, for an end-of-summer Shabbat on the rooftop at Selfhelp Home! Come socialize and connect with other older adults in the community, as well as residents of Selfhelp Home. The evening will begin with Shabbat services, followed by mingling and light refreshments.
Rooftop Shabbat will take place rain or shine! In the event of inclement weather, we’ll move indoors while keeping the same beautiful views and warm atmosphere.

We’re so grateful to the team at Orphans of the Storm shelter in Riverwoods for joining our Holocaust Community Services Mitzvah & Mingle gathering in early July to share the shelter’s history, mission and accomplishments! We loved learning about Irene Castle’s life and legacy and were amazed by the astounding number of animals the shelter has placed into permanent, loving homes. We spent the remainder of our time together mixing up “pupsicles” – cool summer treats for furry friends. The activity fostered partnerships and generated laughter; a wonderful way for all of us to beat the heat as well!

Join us for a meaningful afternoon assembling diaper packs to support local families! We are partnering with Bundled Blessings, a local diaper bank that distributes roughly 47,000 diapers a month to over 900 children in our community. Diapers are a critical expense not covered by federal assistance programs like SNAP or WIC, making them a major gap for families in need. By volunteering your time to pack these essentials, you are directly helping parents access childcare, return to work, and ensure their babies stay healthy.
