🚌Welcome back to the books, Collegeville! 🚌
As our local students trade their swimsuits for backpacks, we want to wish everyone a fantastic and safe start to the new school year. For the rest of us commuters, those breezy, wide-open summer morning drives are officially on hiatus. You’ve probably already noticed the sudden influx of minivans and the return of the morning rush hour. Please plan ahead, pack your patience, and give yourself a few extra minutes each morning so you aren't treating Main Street like a qualifying lap at Daytona just to get to work on time.
With the start of school comes the triumphant return of the magnificent yellow school bus. As your local fire company, we certainly appreciate a large vehicle with flashing lights, but we need you to respect theirs just as much as you respect ours. When those red lights flash and the stop arm extends, it is a legal requirement to stop completely in all directions—not a polite suggestion, and certainly not a challenge to squeeze past before the doors open. Give the buses plenty of room, and remember that passing a stopped school bus will earn you a hefty fine and a very uncomfortable conversation with local law enforcement.
Finally, keep your eyes peeled for our youngest residents who are now out in full force navigating crosswalks, sidewalks, and neighborhood bus stops. Kids are wonderful, but they can also be highly unpredictable, especially when fueled by sugary breakfast pastries and nervous back-to-school energy. They might dart out into the road without looking or get distracted chatting with their friends, so put down the phone and stay hyper-vigilant in residential areas and school zones. From all of us at the Collegeville Fire Company, have a safe, happy, and successful school year!
