LFD Assists with Fire at Old Collegeville Costume factory

Several units were dispatched to a reported building fire at 70 E 3rd Ave in Collegeville on May 24th at 5:59 pm. Callers reported black smoke and crackling sounds coming from the old Collegeville Costume factory, but no visible fire. Collegeville Police and Deputy 34 arrived and confirmed heavy smoke coming from the building's ground floor. Crews arrived and worked to locate and extinguish the fire. The fire was placed under control at 6:22 pm.

As crews were opening windows for ventilation on the second floor, they found a second fire. Local and PA State fire marshals were called to the scene for investigation, and PECO was called to cut power to the building. 322 and Special Service were dispatched to assist with rehab and water, and to fill air cylinders. Units were released shortly thereafter.

Responding units included: Collegeville 34, Limerick 51, Upper Providence 68, Trappe 77, Perkiomen 66, Lower Providence 53, Skippack 86, Lower Providence EMS 322, Collegeville Police, and Pennsylvania State Fire Marshal.

On Monday, June 1st at 2:00 PM, and again on Tuesday, June 2nd at various intervals throughout the day, Constellation will conduct its semi-annual, full-volume test of the emergency warning sirens surrounding Limerick Clean Energy Center (formerly known as "Limerick Generating Station"). This is one of two semi-annual tests performed each year. There is no emergency or cause for concern.

The warning siren system consists of sirens located in the 10-mile radius around Limerick Clean Energy Center in Montgomery, Chester, and Berks Counties. In a real event, the sirens are not a signal to evacuate, but a warning to tune to a local Emergency Alert Broadcast television or radio station.

Better late than never... Last week, we honored EMS providers from all over the nation during EMS week!
National EMS Week is an annual celebration recognizing the dedication and life-saving work of emergency medical services professionals across the United States. The 2026 theme, β€œImproving Outcomes, Together,” emphasizes collaboration among EMS clinicians, 911 dispatchers, healthcare providers, public health officials, and other first responders to enhance patient care and community safety.
We want to give a warm shoutout to Freedom Valley Medical Rescue, who serve Limerick Township! We are grateful for the collaborative care they provide to our residents, and also during any calls our crews handle together! Thank you!!!

About 33 Calls During a Busy May Week for LFD

Limerick Fire Crews were kept busy throughout the very hot half of the week, into a stormy and chilly end of the week. Starting the week off on Sunday, May 17, with a vehicle accident on Game Farm Rd, a reported vehicle fire on Abbey Dr, a fire alarm, and another evening accident with a vehicle into a pole. And that was only Sunday.
Monday, May 18, brought heat and a full afternoon for crews, consisting of three vehicle accidents and a baby deer rescue. The third accident was a school bus into a pole, with the transformer landing on top of the bus. The driver was transported for minor injuries, and no children were on the bus at the time of the crash.
Tuesday, May 19, saw a fire alarm, a vehicle accident, and a motorcycle crash.
Wednesday, May 20, the busiest day of the week, saw a mulch fire at Sheetz in the early afternoon, followed by about 16 storm-related calls as the storm passed through the township.
On Thursday, May 21, the weather was cooler, but that didn't slow down the calls. Three calls consisted of an EMS assist, a greenhouse fire in the evening in Upper Providence at Wojton's Nursery, and a vehicle accident.
Friday, May 22, had a gas odor at Erin's Salon and a building fire assist at the Valley View Apartments in North Coventry.
Finally, Saturday, May 23, had a reported vehicle fire turned single-vehicle accident on Limerick Center Rd and a CO Detector. Even after that crazy, busy week, a few firefighters still had a duty crew on Saturday.
The total number of calls for the week is approximately 33!

LFD Participates in the Montco 250 Strong Grant Kickoff

On May 7, the Limerick Fire Department participated in a vehicle rescue demo as part of the 250 Strong: Save and Serve declaration and signing at the Montgomery County Fire Academy. The goal of the Montgomery County Fire Chiefs Association is to recruit 250 new volunteers using the new FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) SAFER grant. Guest speakers included Commissioner Tom DiBello and Tracie Young-Brungard from the Pennsylvania Office of the State Fire Commissioner.

After the declaration and signing, visiting news stations and visitors had the opportunity to walk around and see the volunteer firefighters from many participating companies around Montgomery County perform live demonstrations on vehicle rescue, a building fire simulation, throwing ground ladders, and a technical rescue.

After the event, the LFD crew headed to Mission BBQ for a delicious and well-deserved dinner!

We are ALWAYS looking for volunteers! If you have even the slightest interest in becoming a firefighter, visit us at our training nights on Mondays at 7:00 PM. There is a place for everyone, and no prior experience is requiredβ€”just a strong desire to serve your community with dedication and a willing heart, no matter the age.
If you'd like to get involved and join your local fire company, visit https://montcofirefighters.org/contact-2/ and fill out an inquiry form.
