No Injuries in Overturned Vehicle Crash on Swamp Pike

October 6, 6:24 pm: The department was dispatched to a single-vehicle crash on Swamp Pike with reports of the car overturned and the driver out of the vehicle. Crews arrived, secured the vehicle, and cleared debris and fluids from the road. The single occupant was evaluated by Freedom Valley EMS and, fortunately, sustained no injuries. The driver’s seatbelt use likely played a significant role in preventing injury. Fire Police shut Swamp Pike down between Houck Rd and Fruitville Rd for the duration of the incident. All were made available within the hour.

Early Morning Building Fire on Masters Dr, Limerick

October 6, 2:41 am: Companies were dispatched to a report of house smoking and a floor and stove on fire on Masters Drive. Deputy 51 arrived first at the scene, investigated, and reported a working kitchen fire. Assistant 51 assumed command upon arrival. Engine 51 was the first due engine and immediately pulled a line and made entry, making a quick knock on the fire. Quint 58 arrived as first due ladder, and the 58 crew set up ground ladders around the house. 98 and 69 crews assisted with ladder deployment. The assignment was held to units on scene shortly after. Trappe Ladder 77 was assigned to temporarily standby for the duration of the incident at the Limerick Station. RFIT1 was dispatched to the scene, and several area fire marshals arrived to investigate the origin and cause of the fire. Fire operations were completed within the hour.

LFD Participates in Region 2 Burn Training

On Wednesday, September 30, a few Limerick firefighters participated in Live Burn 1 of 2 with the Region 2 companies at the Montgomery County Fire Academy. All crews performed training in a series of scenarios and rotated through different truck assignments. Training lasted for about two hours. Special Service 51 assisted with filling air cylinders on site for all crews.

Rope Rescue Technician Training

Members of the Limerick Fire Department and Perkiomen Fire Company just completed rope rescue operations and technician classes. The classes were taught by Elder Technical Rescue Services. Members were taught various skills needed to use rope equipment to rescue victims from limited access areas.

Battery Fire Catches Couch on Swamp Pike

September 21, 11:49 am - The department was dispatched to a reported building fire on Swamp Pike late Monday morning, with initial reports stating a couch was on fire due to a battery issue. Engine 51, Ladder 51, Chief 51, Chief 58, Limerick Fire Marshals, Limerick Fire Police, Trappe Fire Police, Squad 68, Engine 77, and Ladder 98 responded. Chief 51 assessed the situation and held it to 51 and 77 units. Fans were placed at the doors of the residence to ventilate the remaining smoke inside. All were made available about 30 minutes later.

Working Garage Fire on Neiffer Rd

September 24: Dispatch went out at 5:35 pm for a reported unattached garage fire on Neiffer Rd, Limerick Township. One minute later, Deputy 51 reported a header from a half mile out. Upon arrival, Deputy 51 assumed command and stated that it was a three-car garage, well off, with minimal exposure to the residence. The first-in engine immediately deployed hoses and put water on the fire.

As soon as there was a good knock on the fire, firefighters began pulling out sizable pieces of debris to hit the remaining hotspots. Fire Marshals were called to the scene to investigate. There were no reported injuries to personnel or property owners, and the fire was contained to the garage.

Crews remained on scene for approximately three hours before being made available. Fire police closed Neiffer Rd between Swamp Pike and Oak Creek Dr for the duration of the incident. Thank you to all of our mutual aid companies!

CANCELLATION NOTICE:

Due to the impending storm headed to our area, the very difficult decision to cancel Saturday's Tricentennial event has been made. The predicted high winds and heavy bands of rain anticipated throughout the day on Saturday, are a safety concern for those who may attend and for Township staff and personnel as well. At this time, there are no plans to reschedule the event.

We are extremely grateful for the dedication and hard work of all who planned this event over the past several years. While the Township will not be able to celebrate its wonderful 300th milestone on Saturday, we can still remember the past, cherish the present, and embrace the future for all who will call Limerick home for the next 300 years.
