🇺🇸 At 45, SPC. Jennifer Hughes made the decision to step outside her comfort zone, enlist in the Utah Army National Guard, and take on the challenge of Basic Combat Training. 💪

Camp Williams namesake General William Grey Williams was born in 1872. He started his career in the National Guard as a Private, soon commissioning and becoming an officer. During World War 1 he commanded units in England and France, in 1916 he was selected as the Adjutant General of the Utah National Guard.

In the 1920s he worked to establish a permanent training ground site, now known as Camp Williams. During the 1930s he was the commanding officer of the 65th Field Artillery Brigade, he served as TAG until 1946 with 30 years in the position.

Williams would pass away in 1948 originally being interred at Mount Olivet Cemetery, his body would be reinterred at the Utah State Veterans Memorial Park. In 2024 a statue of General Williams was unveiled at Camp Williams, where he still watches over the base that bears his name.

The Recruit Sustainment Program (RSP) prepares future National Guard Soldiers with the skills, confidence, and discipline they'll need before shipping out. From learning Army fundamentals to building physical fitness and meeting the teammates they'll serve alongside, every drill is one step closer to earning the title of Soldier.

Last weekend members of the Utah Army and Air National Guard competed in a Baseball game at The Ballpark at American First Square. The purpose of the game was to honor and celebrate all services and to raise awareness of mental health, and to remind people that they are never alone.

Standing ovation to our Guard members for playing such a good game! 🇺🇸
