CHUM provides basic needs services to those in Duluth in need of emergency shelter, food support, permanent supportive housing programs for children and their families, and a warm day community center.

Chum is a participant in the Discover First Street Passport Program! During the month of August, we will be collecting canned goods for our food shelf in exchange for a passport stamp at our office on 21 W 1st Street.

The free Discover First Street Passport encourages participants to visit First Street businesses, restaurants, nonprofits, and community destinations while completing activities and collecting stamps along the way.

Chum's Steve O'Neil Apartment Site Services Manager, Adrienne Brown, will be holding an art show reception and fundraising event tomorrow, August 13th, at the Zeitgeist! Come admire and purchase some incredible artwork by one of Chum's very own 🤩🌟

50% of proceeds go towards programing for the families residing at Steve O'Neil Apartments.

Chum invites neighbors, downtown businesses, community partners, and everyone who lives, works, volunteers, worships, or visits downtown Duluth to join us for this year's Neighborhood Night Out on Tuesday, August 4th, at the Damiano Center.

In support of the ongoing Chum Shelter Expansion, this year's event will be held at the Damiano Center. This temporary relocation will allow construction activities to continue safely and efficiently while ensuring this valued community tradition remains an opportunity to connect with one another. Neighborhood Night Out celebrates the strength of our downtown community by bringing together residents, businesses, service organizations, and public safety partners to build relationships and foster a safer, more connected neighborhood. Whether you're a long-time resident, a downtown employee, or new to the area, we encourage you to join us, meet your neighbors, and celebrate the partnerships that make our community so special.

We are grateful to the Damiano Center for hosting this year's event and look forward to welcoming Neighborhood Night Out back to the Chum campus once construction of the new shelter has been completed.

"Long ago, when I was married with my two kids, I utilized a food shelf, as we didn't have any food nor were we getting paid for a couple weeks. I felt small and inadequate as a mother who couldn't provide for her family. As an employee at Chum's Food Shelf, I want all individuals to feel welcome and not judged. I want to provide a service where they feel welcome and walk away knowing they were heard."

"The donations from the Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless campaign are so important - it's the money that provides Thanksgiving boxes in November. We want to help support people coming together to share a meal. You can hear folks talk weeks in advance about how excited they are for their Thanksgiving box and how they're using it to cook for a lot of people."

🍅 Summer Fridays at Chum are Produce Fridays! Every Friday during the warmer months, you can stop on by to grab some fresh produce from local farmers for your table, REGARDLESS of your situation, background, or income level (and produce goes bad after awhile, so we need it off our hands!)
