🎓 Planning Ahead: ACES meet college representatives at CACRAO College Fair 🎓

John A. Holmes hosted 35 colleges for the Carolinas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers-sponsored fair yesterday. Students asked questions, received swag and were exposed to schools they might not have known much about before.

Events like this help those interested in attending college understand what their goals should be while in high school. It also shows them what choices of institutions are available to them in the state and what each offers.

Mrs. Chesson's A.P.U.S.H. students got the incredible opportunity to hop on a Zoom call with author Aaron Taylor, who wrote the book they read for class, "American Colonies: The Settling of North America." 🇺🇸

Taylor is one of the most respected historians of early American writing today, is a professor at University of Virginia and a multi-Pulitzer Prize winning author.

Students took turns asking Taylor questions to learn how he became a historian, why he focused on certain topics in the book and how he conducted research to write it.

National Honor Society member Gray Shook guided 66 juniors through the NHS pledge at the induction ceremony last night.

Member and senior Minzy Preciado gave opening remarks, member and senior Donterrio Rogers sang the National Anthem and 27 current members also attended the celebration.

To be eligible for National Honor Society, students must have a 3.25 unweighted GPA, and are accepted base on scholarship, service, leadership and character.

We are so proud of this year's inductees. Congratulations!! 🎉

💙💛 Lunchtime life skills in action! 💙💛

On Friday, Mrs. Exum's students put their real-world independence to the test with a trip to Chick-fil-A!

Everyone stepped up to the counter, placed their own order and handled payment like pros. We are so proud of their confidence, practice with money management and great community navigation!

Big thanks to the staff at Chick-fil-A in Elizabeth City for welcoming our students and helping make this hands-on learning experience such a success!

A huge thank you to Stallings & Stallings Farms and Dismal Swamp Boers for hosting Ms. Silva’s and Mrs. Exxum’s classes and teaching our students about livestock production and row crop farming! 🐷🐐🌾🚜

Hands-on experiences outside the classroom are an important part of agricultural education, allowing students to connect what they learn to real-world practices. We are so thankful for these opportunities and our local agricultural community! 💙💛

On Fridays, students play board games, cards and color during lunch as part of our Fun Friday initiative to encourage socializing and less screen time.

Over the past few weeks, ACES played classics like Uno and Checkers, and taught their friends new games like Taco Cat Cheese Pizza (similar to spoons). 🌮🐈🧀🍕
