For today's Fridays in the Field, we're highlighting last night's River & Roots Celebration with Keep Genesee County Beautiful and the Flint River Watershed Coalition!
This annual event celebrates the power of community partnerships while bringing neighbors together to connect with nature and one another. This year's carnival-themed celebration featured live music, games and activities, free food and drinks, opportunities to connect with local organizations making a difference throughout Genesee County, and special recognition of outstanding community members. The Flint River and Community Stewardship Golden Gloves Award, presented for the Stewardship Day event, was awarded to the individual who discovered a wooden rocking horse at Glenwood Cemetery. The Dr. Gary Pace Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to Tiffany Minder, and the Joe Leonardi Leadership Award was presented to Patricia Ramirez. Congratulations to all three recipients on these well-deserved honors!
A special thank you to all of the participating organizations that helped make this event possible: Friends of the Flint River Trail, Flint Institute of Music, For-Mar Nature Preserve & Arboretum, Wolverine Campground, Crossroads Village & Huckleberry Railroad, Genesee County Parks - State Park, Genesee County Human Resources and Labor Relations, Genesee County Metropolitan Planning Commission, Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, Crim Fitness Foundation, Gloria Coles Flint Public Library, Sloan Museum of Discovery, Motherly Intercession, Genesee Conservation District, Factory Two, Mid Michigan Therapy Dogs, and Uncle Ray's!
It was an evening filled with fun, laughter, and community spirit along the Flint River!
