Our Story

We are a nonprofit Center for Independent Living that provides supports to the Genesee County community. At The Disability Network, Independent Living is a philosophy and a way of life. It is a movement of people with disabilities who work for self-determination, equal opportunities and self-respect. The Independent Living philosophy says that every person, regardless of disability, has the potential and the right to exercise individual self-determination.

Since 1992, we have worked to support the community with these five core services: Independent Living Skills development, Information and referral to community resources, Community and Youth Transitions, Peer Support and Advocacy (both systems and self). Our goal is to support people of any age and any disability in achieving their ideal of independent living.
