Florence Fire had a purrfectly unexpected call today. A small kitten decided the dashboard was the best hiding spot in town ā€” until she couldnā€™t get back out.

The owner came straight to us, and our firefighters got to work. A few tools, a lot of patience, and one tiny meow laterā€¦ kitten rescued, dashboard intact, and one very relieved human.

What should we name him? I say we name him Dash!

Never a dull day in Florence.

Today we celebrate Captain Bill Bruin on an incredible milestone ā€” 20 years of dedicated service with Florence Fire & Medical.

Captain Bruin has spent two decades serving this community with integrity, leadership, and heart. He is currently representing Florence at the Mesa Fire & Medical Academy as an RTO (Recruit Training Officer), shaping the next generation of firefighters and ensuring our newest recruit is learning, growing, and preparing to serve with excellence.

Billā€™s commitment to the fire service extends far beyond the fireground. He leads by example, mentors with patience, and embodies what it means to be a Florence firefighter.

Please join us in congratulating Captain Bruin on 20 years of outstanding service. Congratulations, Bill ā€” and thank you for everything you bring to this department and this community.

Our Fire Crew stopped by the Florence Senior Center to make sure our senior residents are feeling their best. We may fight fires, but we also fight high blood pressureā€”one friendly visit at a time.

Weā€™re proud to partner with the Dorthy Nolan Senior Center monthly to support the health and well-being of our seniors. Together, we make sure Florenceā€™s finest residents are cared for, connected, and never short on smiles.

We had an awesome surprise at the station yesterday! A young man came by to drop off a flyer for his lemonade stand, and one thing led to anotherā€¦

Next thing you know, he and his family were getting a station tour, climbing through the truck, and taking part in a hose training demo. Our crews had a blast with him ā€” his excitement was contagious.

We enjoyed every minute and appreciate the community connections that make Florence special.

šŸšØ FOUND TORTOISE ALERT! šŸ¢
Florence friends ā€” this little explorer was found wandering in the road today and is clearly on an unauthorized adventure. She was found on the 79 right before town, near Salazar St. and Sunaire Dr. (picture below).

He/She is safe, happy, and currently enjoying some shade and a snack while we try to find his humans.
