The WARM Place is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) agency that provides bi-weekly peer-support groups for children and their families after the death of a loved one. Our program, led by trained volunteers, provides a safe environment for children to express feelings and emotions as well as the opportunity to meet with children and families who are experiencing situations similar to their own. Families are never charged a fee for our services, there are no geographical limitations, and no time limits - families are welcome to participate as long as the children are receiving benefit from the program.

Words of Encouragement

We have asked some of our groups, “If you had a close friend that was going through what you have been though, what would you tell them?’ Words shared reflect a need for encouragement and understanding. Acknowledging that it hurts and knowing words like “I’m sorry for your loss” and “I know how you feel” would not cross their lips...

The Koenes Family Story

MaryBeth Koenes and her two children, Beckam and MaryBella started attending grief support groups at The WARM Place in February 2017. It was six months after the death of their father, Tyrel who completed suicide. MaryBeth turned to The WARM Place for guidance in the wake of grief as a single mom with two young children.

Watch the video to hear more about their story and how The WARM Place played a role in their grief journey. We are so honored that they chose to share their story with us!

The liminal space between what was and what is yet to be is a hard one to be in. So much of learning to live with grief is learning to navigate this in-between space. The space where your person is gone and you don’t yet know how to live without them. ⁣

For Many Widows, the Hardest Part Is Mealtime

"The connection between food and mourning runs deep: In almost every culture or tradition, a community brings dishes to the survivors in the weeks or months after a death. But for a spouse, accustomed to sharing every meal with a partner, the grieving can go on long afterward, renewed constantly by the rhythms of shopping, cooking and eating..."

New attention is being paid to the role of food and cooking in grieving for a lost partner.

Every night before our grief support groups, WARM Place families and volunteers sit down together for a potluck meal. This is such an important part of our program because after a death, family meal times can be hard to coordinate, and this time also provides an opportunity for fellowship among families and volunteers. Normally, each family is asked to bring a small dish to contribute to the potluck. However, for the past two weeks during the holiday season, they didn’t have to worry about that, thanks to the generosity of 8 donors! Help us thank the following donors for providing dinner for our WARM Place families this holiday season: The Law Office of Lester K. Reed, PLLC, Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken Fort Worth Texas, Jason's Deli, Frost, Modern Woodmen of America, Chuy's, Joe T. Garcia's, and Genghis Grill
