Karla Taylor Christian will be hosting a Peace Light sharing event at the Council offices on Dec. 15. This would be a fabulous opportunity to invite Scouts/Scouters, as well as non-Scouters to participate in this event. It is open to the public and there is no cost to attend. In case you are not familiar with the event, check the website (https://peacelightnorthamerica.org/) for additional information. A brief description of the International Peace Light is provided below.

The Peace Light is an eternal flame originating at the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. Similar to the Olympic flame, it is spread around the world with a message of peace and brotherhood. Each year, a child fetches the flame into blast-proof lamps which are flown from Tel Aviv to Vienna, Austria then on to New York City. Delegations from many churches, Scout groups, and other youth organizations receive the Peace Light at a service at John F. Kennedy Airport, then spread the flame and its message of peace and brotherhood across the North American continent.

Afghan Scouts Messengers of Peace

This Messengers of Peace video made by Afghani Scouts was posted just two weeks ago. The last time the government changed in Kabul as it has this week, Scouting was banned throughout the country. Let's pray for the Scouts and all others during this tumultuous time.

Today marks 80 years since Baden-Powell passed away. Watch to learn more about B-P and Olave’s ‘2nd home’ in Kenya, a place they called Paxtu. Their tomb in Nyeri Cemetery was named a national monument. ⚜️

We can honour the founder of Scouting today through our continued dedication to building a better world together, by service to others and the practice of the Scout Promise & Law.

The idea is to wear your scarf, neckerchief, necker (whatever you want to call it) in public, or in the comfort of your home. Then post a picture on social media to make the "Spirit of Scouting" visible: Once a Scout - Always a Scout!

The Legend that is Saint George

Today is St. George's Day, which is celebrated in many countries around the world and by Scouts almost everywhere.

Lord Robert Baden-Powell, founder of the Scouting Movement chose St. George to be the Patron Saint of the Scouting Movement. He chose St. George because of the qualities of selfless service, bravery, and belief in God that he possessed. St. George also slayed a dragon and saved a princess...not bad for a day's work!

Read about St. George in an April 1966 Boy's Life article that can be accessed at the link below.

Had some fun tonight on the Jamboree on the Internet (JOTI) Special Edition that is going on all weekend. For you early birds, tomorrow morning at 7-9am, Live Show #3 will feature Bear Grylls, as well as performances from the Youth Got Talent Stage. If you miss that one, join Live Show #4 at 7-9PM. Chatting and other activities, games, educational seminars, and more go on around the clock, 24/7 all weekend. There's so much to do, you can't possibly do it in one sitting...come and go as you like all weekend long. I chatted with Scouts from at least a dozen countries tonight in a matter of 30 minutes. Fun, fun, fun!

Here is a link to the JOTI site...https://www.jotajoti.info/.

You'll need to create a Scouts.org account to start.

The International Peace Light is an eternal flame originating at the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. Similar to the Olympic flame, it is spread around the world with a message of peace and friendship. Each year, a child fetches the flame into blast-proof lamps which are flown from Tel Aviv to Vienna, Austria then on to New York City. Citizens as well as delegations from many churches, Scout groups, and other youth organizations receive the Peace Light at a service at John F. Kennedy Airport, then spread the flame and its message of peace and friendship person to person across the North American continent. All are welcome to receive the Peace Light; this event is open to families, friends, clergy, and Scout units. https://fb.me/e/21V7ah5gY
