SEA Raines and I had a great visit at Purdue University today and spent time with ROTC cadets preparing to serve and lead our Army and Air Force.

Purdue is a tremendous partner in our national security enterprise, ranking among the Department of War’s largest university research partners. Its researchers and engineers are developing technologies that will help shape tomorrow’s battlefield.

Thank you to Interim President Mitch Daniels and the entire Purdue team for hosting us and for your continued commitment to service, innovation and our national security.

I was honored to join Indiana Gov. Mike Braun, Gen. LaNeve and Maj. Gen. Muennich to present the Presidential Unit Citation to Company D (Ranger), 151st Infantry Regiment: The Indiana Rangers.

The only Army National Guard ground maneuver unit to serve intact in Vietnam, these Soldiers answered the Nation’s call in some of the most unforgiving terrain of the war. Their extraordinary heroism is a testament to the enduring legacy of our National Guard.

CSM Kendrick and I had the absolute honor of meeting the Company D, 151st Infantry Regiment, Indiana National Guard Rangers, whose courage and sacrifice in Vietnam forged a legacy unlike any other in the Army National Guard!

As the only Army Guard ground maneuver unit to serve in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War, these Rangers conducted hundreds of dangerous long-range reconnaissance missions, often operating deep in enemy-controlled territory under the most demanding combat conditions.

Their record speaks for itself, and today, more than five decades after they returned home, they are receiving the Presidential Unit Citation in recognition of their extraordinary heroism, teamwork, and sacrifice!

Their place in our history is permanent, and their example continues to inspire every generation of Soldiers who follow. Rangers lead the way!

Soldiers of the Indiana National Guard's 38th Combat Aviation Brigade are partnering with the City of Carmel, Indiana Government, Carmel Fire Department, and Carmel Police Department to help protect critical infrastructure along the White River.

Using two UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters, Guard aircrews are sling-loading 2,000-pound sandbags into the river at the site of a road collapse on Hazel Dell Parkway, reinforcing the area after significant flooding damaged infrastructure across central Indiana. The aerial sling-load capability allows crews to place heavy loads precisely where ground equipment cannot reach, a mission that could not be accomplished by other means.

Coordinated closely with city engineers and first responders, this operation reflects the strength of Indiana's unified disaster response: state and local partners combining unique capabilities to protect communities and the resources Hoosiers rely on.

Hoosiers can report property damage through Indiana 211 at 211 or 866-211-9966 and should always call 911 in an emergency.

On August 15, 2026, Soldiers from the 113th Engineer Battalion continued storm response efforts, working alongside the Indianapolis Fire Department to conduct high-water recovery operations.

Working shoulder-to-shoulder with local first responders, our Guard members are reaching residents, supporting evacuations, and helping families and pets move to safety.

Operating in support of Indiana Department of Homeland Security and local authorities, the Indiana National Guard remains focused on one priority above all: protecting Hoosiers' lives. This joint effort reflects the strength of Indiana's coordinated disaster response with state and local partners working as one team.

Soldiers of the Indiana National Guard's 113th Engineer Battalion are working side by side with the Anderson Fire Department to conduct high-water operations as rising water levels bring heavy flooding to Indiana's eastern communities.

Guard members are moving through affected neighborhoods, coordinating with local first responders, checking on residents, and supporting rescue efforts where the water has risen fastest.

With forecasters calling for another round of impactful weather over the next 24 hours, the Indiana National Guard remains postured and ready to respond wherever Hoosiers need us.

This is what looks like, neighbors in uniform, standing with our communities through the storm.
