Please join us in congratulating Sgt. Brian Welsh on his upcoming retirement!

After 20 years of dedicated service in law enforcement, Sgt. Welsh is officially retiring from the Speedway Police Department.

Throughout two decades of service, Sgt. Welsh has demonstrated professionalism, leadership, and a strong commitment to protecting and serving the community. During his career, he has worked alongside countless officers and has made a lasting impact on both the department and the people we serve.

A 20-year career in policing represents thousands of shifts, late nights, missed holidays, difficult calls, memorable moments, and years of putting others before yourself. Reaching this milestone is an accomplishment worthy of recognition.
We thank Sgt. Welsh for his 20 years of service, sacrifice, and dedication and wish him and his family nothing but the best as he begins this next chapter.

Congratulations on your retirement and thank you for your commitment to our department and the Town of Speedway.

The Speedway Police Department is providing the following information regarding law enforcement activity in the Runaway Bay Apartments.

Officers responded to a domestic disturbance involving a firearm at the Runaway Bay Apartments. During the investigation, information was received that a possible armed subject may have been barricaded inside the apartment. Out of an abundance of caution, the Speedway Police Department SWAT Team was activated.

A search warrant was obtained, and the apartment was safely searched. The individual involved was ultimately determined not to be inside the apartment. All occupants have been located and are safe and accounted for.

Officers collected evidence and photographs related to the incident, and the investigation remains ongoing. Upon completion of the investigation, the case will be forwarded to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office for review and consideration of criminal charges.

There is no known threat to the public at this time.

We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation while officers worked to safely resolve the situation. Additional information may be released when appropriate and when doing so will not compromise the integrity of the investigation.

The Speedway Police Department has seen an increase in vehicle break-ins over the past several days. We want to remind everyone to take a few simple precautions to help protect your property:

Always lock your vehicle, even when parked at home.
Remove valuables from your vehicle or keep them secured and out of sight.
Keep exterior lights on at night and consider installing motion-activated floodlights.
Stay alert and be aware of suspicious activity around your property and throughout your neighborhood.
Look out for your neighbors and report unusual activity.

As always, if you see something suspicious, call the police. If you believe a crime is in progress, call 911 .

Taking a few extra precautions can go a long way in making your vehicle and property a less attractive target.

While out on patrol, our officers spotted something a little out of the ordinary… 🥔🚓

The Famous Idaho Potato Tour made its way through Speedway, and our officers couldn’t pass up the opportunity for a quick photo with one of the most recognizable “vehicles” on the road!

You never know what you’ll come across while out patrolling our community. Today, it just happened to be a giant potato.

For the past 15 years, Brandyn has consistently demonstrated professionalism, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to serving our officers, dispatchers, and the Speedway community.

The Speedway Police Department is proud to welcome Officer Dustin Weber to our team!

Originally from Indianapolis, Officer Weber has returned home to Indiana after serving 11 years with the St. Petersburg Police Department, including 7 years as a K-9 Officer.

We are excited to have Officer Weber bring his experience, professionalism, and dedication to serving the Speedway community.

📚🍎 Tomorrow is the First Day of School! 🚌✏️

Tomorrow, students throughout our community will be heading back to school, and we couldn't be more excited to welcome them back! We hope everyone had a fun, relaxing, and safe summer.

As students return to the classroom, please remember that traffic will be significantly heavier during the morning and afternoon hours. School zone speed limits will be in effect, and officers from the Speedway Police Department will be actively patrolling school zones and school crossing areas to help keep everyone safe.

As you travel tomorrow and throughout the school year, please remember to:
🚸 Obey all posted school zone speed limits.
🚶 Stay alert for children in crosswalks and school crossing areas, especially near crossing guards.
📵 Put your phone away and eliminate distractions while driving.
👀 Be prepared for children to cross unexpectedly, especially during the first few days of school.

The first day of school is exciting for students, parents, and teachers—but it also requires all of us to be a little more patient and a lot more attentive behind the wheel. Slowing down for just a few moments can make a life-saving difference.

From all of us at the Speedway Police Department, we wish every student, teacher, school employee, and family a safe, successful, and memorable first day of school. Let's work together to make this school year a safe one for everyone!

The reception will the held in the Allsion Public Meeting Room at the Speedway Municipal Center located at 5300 Crawfordsville Rd.
