CERT Week may be ending, but the mission continues!

Over the past week, we’ve shared a little more about what CERT is, why our volunteers choose to serve, the training that helps us stay prepared, the people behind the program, and the support that makes Marion County CERT possible.

But CERT is about more than one week.

It’s about learning. It’s about being prepared. It’s about serving your community and being ready to help when you’re needed. Most importantly, it’s about people coming together with a shared purpose.

That’s what our volunteers do all year around, and that’s what we’ll continue to do long after CERT Week is over!

As we wrap up CERT Week 2026, we want to thank our volunteers, our sponsoring agency, the Marion County Emergency Management Agency, and our instructors. We also want to thank everyone who has followed along and helped us celebrate this week.

The week may be over, but we’ll keep carrying the torch forward!

It’s Feature Friday!

Today, we’re recognizing the Marion County Emergency Management Agency, the sponsoring agency for Marion County CERT.

Their continued support makes it possible for our volunteers to train, stay prepared, and serve our community. Simply put, without their support, there would be no Marion County CERT.

We’re incredibly grateful for everything Marion County EMA does to support our program, our volunteers, and our continued efforts to build a more prepared Marion County.

Thank you, Marion County EMA, for helping us continue to carry the torch!

That was THEN. This is NOW!

It’s Throwback Thursday for National CERT Week, and we’re taking it back to where the CERT journey starts: Basic Training!

We all walked into Basic Training not quite knowing what to expect and walked out knowing a lot more than when we started. Some of those lessons stick with us long after the class ends. They shape how we prepare, how we help others, and how we serve our communities.

Now we want to hear from you!

Think back to your CERT Basic Training. What are the THREE things you remember learning that have stuck with you the most?

Was it something you learned in the classroom? Was it a hands-on skill. Or was it something you didn’t fully appreciate until you needed it later?

Tell us your Top 3 in the comments! Whether you just finished Basic Training or it’s been years since you took the course, we want to know what stuck with you!

MARION COUNTY, LET’S SEE YOUR GREEN!

It’s Wear Your Green Wednesday, and today we’re celebrating the people who make CERT what it is….YOU!

We want to see you wearing your CERT shirt, rocking your green vest, carrying your favorite CERT gear, or simply adding a little green to your day!

📸 Snap a photo.
💚 Show off your CERT pride.
🏷️ Tag us so we can celebrate right along with you!

Every shirt, every vest, and every splash of green represents something bigger: people who care about their communities, believe in being prepared, and are willing to help their neighbors when it matters the most.

So don’t be shy, wear your green, take that picture, and show us your CERT pride! Let’s see just how much green we can get across Marion County today!

Together, we’re carrying the torch, and doing the greatest good for the greatest number!

Why CERT? Sometimes the best answer comes from the people who live it.

For Testimonial Tuesday, we asked some of our Marion County CERT volunteers how CERT training has made a difference in their lives.

Their answers show just how far CERT can reach. The knowledge and skills learned through the program don't stop when training ends. They can change how someone prepares at home, approaches their job, responds to an emergency, and even helps strengthen their community.

Here’s what some of our volunteers had to say:

Christy: “I now look at things differently, and I’m more prepared if a disaster happens.”

Joanne: “Training has made a difference in my life because I have knowledge, and I am better prepared if a disaster occurs.”

Jeff: “I am better prepared for a disaster.”

Jason: “I have seen many who have come in and not been seen again. But I come across them later and see how they have built up their communities to be stronger based on the principles of the CERT program.”

Mike: “There are so many CERT trainings that provide skills CERT members can use in their day-to-day lives. These trainings also prepare members for disasters that may occur.”

Lee: “It’s made me a better employee. The skills I’ve learned through CERT have helped me be more assertive in my completely unrelated day job.”

Six volunteers. Six different perspectives. And just a small glimpse into the many ways CERT can make a difference.

Now we want to hear from you!

If CERT has been part of your story, what’s your why? What brought you to CERT? What have you taken away from the experience? How has it made a difference for you or your community?

Share your story with us!

MEET THE TEAM: LEE!

Next up for Meet the Team Monday is Lee, Marion County CERT's Logistics Section Chief!
Sometimes getting involved with CERT starts with a simple recommendation from the right person.

For Lee, that recommendation came from a friend working in emergency management at NASA who got his own start with a small-town CERT program.

"He told me it'd be up my alley, so I took certain basic, and I have been involved ever since"

That suggestion turned into a lasting commitment to CERT, and today Lee serves as our logistics section chief, helping make sure our team has the resources and support needed to get the job done.

It's a great reminder that you never quite know we're taking that first cert class might lead!

Thank you, Lee, for being part of Marion County CERT and for everything you do to support the team!

💚 MEET THE TEAM: JOANNE!

Our next Meet the Team Monday spotlight is Joanne, one of Marion County CERT’s dedicated volunteers!

Joanne has been with CERT for 3 years, and her reason for joining came from something at the heart of what CERT is all about: helping others and serving her community.

“I joined CERT because I have a passion for helping others and serving my community, especially in times of need.”

One experience that stands out most for Joanne is taking part in the exercise at Ben Davis. It gave her the opportunity to put her training into action, work alongside fellow CERT members, and experience the teamwork that brings everything together.

💚 Thank you, Joanne, for 3 years of service and for bringing your passion for helping others to Marion County CERT!

Keep following along, we have more of our volunteers and leaders to spotlight throughout the day!
