Attention Kake Customers: Someone dropped a tree on a secondary drop that blew the fuse and almost caused an area wide outage.
This is a reminder to all customers, please be careful when cutting trees around power lines and lines that go to structures. Luckily no one got hurt but it could have been serious.

June 2026 hydro generation, savings in gallons of fuel along with fuel cost savings:
Gartina Falls hydro in Hoonah generated a total of 196,550 kWh, resulting in fuel savings of 14,399 gallons. Total savings in fuel costs $75,740.
Total generation since Aug. 2015 = 14,157,570 kWh. Gallons of fuel saved since startup = 966,457. Cost of fuel saved since startup = $3,007,557.
Gunnuk Creek hydro in Kake generated a total of 45,878 kWh, resulting in fuel savings of 2,346 gallons. Total savings in fuel costs $9,241.
Total generation since Oct. 2020 = 4,428,045 kWh. Gallons of fuel saved since startup = 304,491. Cost of fuel saved since startup = $1,029,602.
10 Mile hydro in the Chilkat Valley generated 153,600 kWh. We do not diesel generate in the CV so there are no fuel savings for comparison. Total generation YTD for the Chilkat Valley in 2026 = 415,800 kWh.
Total hydro generation from all sources in 2026 = 1,514,021 kWh.

Congratulations to Paige Woitte from Hoonah, Lydia Chang and Paige Ross from Kake, and Michaelene Hotch from Klukwan. Each one received a $1,000 scholarship to the college of their choice. These scholarships were awarded by the IPEC board at their July meeting. We wish each of these remarkable students the best in their future endeavors!
