This week we'd love to put the Safe Place highlight on CCFR (the fire department)! CCFR has 3 staffed fire stations - one in Auke Bay, one downtown, and one by the airport - and they are all Safe Places! The downtown and airport fire stations are staffed 24/7 and Auke Bay is staffed during normal business hours. CCFR was one of our first community Safe Place partners and we appreciate their commitment to go above and beyond to serve the community and keep Juneau safe!

As a reminder, any youth experiencing a crisis or feeling unsafe can enter a Safe Place site in the community and get connected to the help they need. A list of Safe Place sites can be found on our website, and youth can find the Safe Place site closest to them by texting the word "safe" and their location to "4HELP" (44357).

Congratulations to this year's Youth Employment in Parks (YEP) graduates! 🎉

Over the course of the summer, these incredible young people showed up, worked hard, learned new skills, and made a positive impact in our community. From gaining hands-on work experience to building confidence, teamwork, and leadership, each participant has so much to be proud of.

At Shéiyi X̱aat Hít, we love finding opportunities for fun, adventure, and new experiences for the youth we serve. Last week, staff took some of our youth on a whale watching trip, where they spent time on the water spotting whales and enjoying Juneau's familiar overcast skies. It was a great day of connection, laughter, and making lasting memories together!

We're looking for pottery artists to volunteer with our Pottery Club! When: Every Friday, 4:00–6:00 PM

Pottery Club is a relaxed, open studio where youth work on their own creative projects. This isn't a curriculum based class. volunteers spend their time demonstrating techniques (handbuilding and wheel work), answering questions, and encouraging young artists as they create. We are hoping to find more than one artist to fill our club needs.

We welcome artists of all skill levels to reach out! Ideally, you'll have experience with:
-Throwing on the pottery wheel
-Handbuilding
-Teaching or guiding youth in a supportive, encouraging way
What you'll receive in exchange:
-Access to the pottery wheel for your own projects
-Kiln space for personal work
What volunteering looks like:
-Commit to covering at least 1 Pottery Club sessions per month
-Choose what you'd like to facilitate each session (wheel throwing or handbuilding)
-Support youth by offering guidance, demonstrations, and creative encouragement while they work on their own projects

We’re excited to highlight Wayfinders as another Safe Place location in Juneau! 💙

As a fellow Safe Place site, Zach Gordon Youth Center is proud to partner with Wayfinders and Shéiyi X̲aat Hít Youth Shelter to expand the network of safe, supportive spaces available to young people in our community.

Safe Place is a national youth outreach and prevention program that connects youth under 18 with immediate support when they’re experiencing a crisis, feeling unsafe, or simply need someone to help. With Wayfinders joining the network, even more youth in Juneau have access to caring adults and community resources when they need them most.

We’re grateful to Wayfinders for their commitment to creating a space where young people feel heard, valued, and supported. Together, we’re strengthening the safety net for youth in Juneau and helping ensure every young person knows they’re not alone.
