Michigan continues to bring home federal infrastructure investments and put them to work strengthening the connections our communities rely on.

In partnership with the Michigan Department of Transportation, we’ve secured $145 million in federal funding to build a stronger passenger rail system with improved reliability, reduced service disruptions and faster travel. At the end of the day, this funding will make it easier for Michiganders and visitors to connect to jobs, education, tourism and opportunities across the Midwest.

The investment will advance three projects along the Michigan Line, a key passenger rail corridor connecting communities across Michigan with Chicago. Improvements include reconstructing structurally deficient bridges, replacing the 124-year-old Blackman Road Bridge in Jackson and upgrading tracks and turnouts between Dearborn and Kalamazoo.

The Michigan Infrastructure Office is investing $7.5 million through the Make It in Michigan Competitiveness Fund to explore Michigan’s potential for geologic hydrogen — a naturally occurring resource that could help lower energy costs, create good-paying jobs and drive economic growth across our state.

The investment will support research, mapping and test wells to determine whether geologic hydrogen can be safely and economically recovered in Michigan, while helping the state compete for additional federal investment.

Michigan has the geology, talent and industrial strength to lead in emerging industries. Now, we’re doing the work to understand what’s possible.
