This morning, the JCSO had the honor of escorting Lt. Col. Carl Yates to Arch L. Heady Funeral Home ahead of this afternoon’s visitation.

Visitation is open to the public from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 7410 Westport Road.

The funeral service will be held tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Beuchel Park Baptist Church on Hikes Lane.

We ask you continue to keep Col. Yates family, friends and colleagues in your thoughts during this time as we remember his life and legacy. 🪽

The JCSO River Unit recently welcomed attendees from the National Homeland Security Conference for a firsthand look at our team, equipment, and capabilities on the water.

It was a great opportunity to connect with public safety professionals from across the country and showcase how JCSO works to keep our waterways and community safe.

Funeral arrangements have been finalized for Lt. Col. Carl L. Yates.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 19, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Arch L. Heady & Sons, 7410 Westport Road in Louisville.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, August 20, at 1:00 p.m. at Buechel Park Baptist Church, 2403 Hikes Lane in Louisville.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Col. Carl Yates.

For generations, Carl was more than a public information officer. He was a trusted voice for the Sheriff’s Office, a steady presence during difficult moments, and a friend and mentor to countless people in law enforcement, the media and our community.
Carl dedicated his career to serving others with professionalism, integrity and compassion. His impact on this agency and community will not be forgotten.

We extend our deepest condolences to Carl’s family, friends, colleagues and all whose lives he touched. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

During the National Homeland Security Conference, attendees participated in guided UTV tours highlighting our approach to crisis response and major event preparedness.

The tours examined lessons learned from significant events in our community while discussing how those experiences informed response strategies, interagency coordination and preparedness for future critical incidents.

The JCSO is grateful to have had the opportunity to share these experiences with public safety professionals from across the country.
