The Louisville Metro Office of Planning has announced the launch of a comprehensive update to modernize the Land Development Code (LDC). The LDC is the set of regulations designed to ensure future growth and development in Jefferson County and is consistent with the goals, objectives, and policies of Plan 2040.
In 2025, the Office of Planning received federal funding, creating the opportunity to comprehensively update the LDC. The update aligns the LDC with city-wide needs and best practices. It will also make the LDC and supporting processes easier for residents, property owners, and businesses to navigate by improving organization, clarity, and consistency. Since 2020, the Office of Planning has been updating the LDC to address Louisville’s future needs and this is the latest step in that process.
The update process is planned to last about 2.5 years and includes three rounds of community-wide public engagement, which begins in Fall 2026. Community members may provide input by:
• Attending public meetings;
• Participating in neighborhood walking tours;
• Attending one-on-one office hours, or;
• Submitting comments online.
