Remember to tighten up your biosecurity practices if animals are entering and leaving the farm. In Wisconsin, there are many fairs, shows, and exhibitions to celebrate Wisconsin’s agriculture and the importance of livestock within our state. To help protect animals, event staff, exhibitors, and the public, ensure you:

- Wash your hands before and after handling animals.
- Prepare animals before the fair by ensuring your livestock have the proper vaccinations, veterinary care, and nutrition.
- Clean and disinfect animal pens, trailers, scales, and equipment before and after use.

Thank you for taking proper measures to keep yourself, your animals, and others healthy!

Tune into this video for more biosecurity tips at: https://livestock.extension.wisc.edu/articles/biosecurity-practices-for-livestock-at-fairs-shows-and-exhibitions/.

This video outlines practices for biosecurity at fairs, shows, and exhibitions.

DATCP began its annual early detection surveys for the non-native spotted lanternfly (SLF) in July. These surveys target areas with a lot of out-of-state vehicle traffic because states to the south and east of Wisconsin have infestations. To date, no live SLF have been found in Wisconsin.

You can help by searching for this pest, especially on tree-of-heaven, grape, walnut, and maple. If you think you found SLF, take a photo and report it at slf.wi.gov.

Read more about these surveys in the July 2026 edition of DATCP’s “What’s Growing On” e-newsletter: https://content.govdelivery.com/accounts/WIDATCP/bulletins/41f7d3b.

In June, DATCP staff from the International Agribusiness Center (IABC) were joined by many Wisconsin companies at the North American Railgate event in Monterrey, Mexico.

This event was planned with the FIFA World Cup, Canadian Pacific Kansas City Rail CPKC, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) with a World Cup-themed agriculture supply chain popup trade show and rail logistics presentations. The Wisconsin pavilion put Wisconsin on the map for several large retailers in Mexico, and DATCP is excited to continue to work partners to strengthen these relationships.
