This past Saturday, City of Milwaukee DCD Commissioner Lafayette Crump provided remarks celebrating 50 years of Halyard Park along with the unveiling of the Beechie O. Brooks statue located at 2043 N. 6th St.

Beechie O. Brooks led the effort to develop Halyard Park in 1976 with a vision to create a suburban-style subdivision for Milwaukee’s Black middle class. The development created over 40 single-family homes across several city blocks.

Such wonderful energy and information last week at the Community Open House for the King Drive Corridor Plan! The City of Milwaukee and the Historic King Drive Is Business Improvement District No. 8 are developing a new corridor plan for North Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, from West Walnut Street to West Capitol Drive. The plan will guide future land use, economic development, urban design, and improvements to streets and public spaces along the corridor.

Your Voice and Your Input will help create a long-term vision that reflects the goals, priorities, and aspirations of those who live, work, and play along King Drive.

The vacant 14-story east tower of the 310W Building, 310 W. Wisconsin Ave., is to be redeveloped into apartments ranging from studios to three-bedroom units. That includes 50 studio and one-bedroom units with reduced rents for households earning between 70% and 90% of the area median income. The $73.6 million project includes city financing of $6.44 million.

TONIGHT: The City of Milwaukee's DCD and the Historic King Drive Business Improvement District are developing new plans for the North King Drive corridor and seeking feedback from community members.

An in-person community meeting will be held tonight at the Milwaukee Public Library King Drive Branch from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Residents and business owners are encouraged to share what they love about King Drive, what they want to change, and where those changes should occur.

The City of Milwaukee and the King Drive Business Improvement District are developing new improvement plans for the corridor and looking for community feedback.

We will also be celebrating the legacy of Mr. Beechie O. Brooks, including the unveiling of the Beechie O. Brooks Statue.

Come honor history, celebrate Mr. Brooks, his family, and the families and leaders who shaped this remarkable neighborhood, and look ahead to the legacy still being built.

Downtown Milwaukee’s first public dog park has earned international recognition!

The International Downtown Association presented Milwaukee Downtown, Business Improvement District #21, and the Historic Third Ward, Business Improvement District #2, with a Downtown Achievement Award of Excellence for their work planning, developing and opening the Downtown Milwaukee Dog Park.

DCD worked closely with the BIDs and assisted in the park's design. The City of Milwaukee is also spending nearly $3 million to extend the Milwaukee RiverWalk past the dog park and Foxtown Landing.
