The Old Dominion University community is comprised of 769 international students from 89 countries. To ensure that the international students receive the best care to meet their needs, ODU has various departments within campus and international/global student organizations that primarily serve the international student community and aim to provide assistance, including financial, to its international students.

Being away from their home countries and not having support systems make it even harder for international students to live in a new country. Despite numerous efforts made by the university to aid international students, they still face challenges, including language barriers, acclimating to a new culture, and different cultural philosophies, approaches to curricula, and dealing with mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression.
