The Arkansas Army National Guard offers several paths to becoming a commissioned officer.

Officer Candidate School for current Soldiers and college graduates. ROTC for students still on campus, including the opportunity to serve through the Simultaneous Membership Program. Direct commission opportunities for qualified professionals in select fields such as medicine, law, and ministry.

Guard officers lead Soldiers, plan missions, solve complex problems, and take responsibility for the people and resources entrusted to them—all while continuing to build lives and careers outside the uniform.

Your training timeline and available benefits will depend on the job and enlistment option you choose, so now is the time to start planning.

Prior Service Soldiers come back to the Arkansas Army National Guard for reasons that never changed: the people, the mission, and benefits that pick up where they left off.

Rank and time in service count. Many MOSs transfer directly. Prior Service bonuses are available for qualifying jobs, and retirement points start accruing again the first drill back.

The Arkansas Army National Guard serves both our state and our nation.

At home, Soldiers may be called to support Arkansas communities during severe weather, natural disasters, and other emergencies.

Beyond our state, Soldiers train and deploy in support of federal missions across the country and around the world.

Guard service keeps you connected to home—but it can also take you far beyond it. Wherever the mission leads, Arkansas Soldiers are ready to answer the call.

Big decisions deserve clear answers.

Parents and students should understand the service commitment, Basic Combat Training, job training, education benefits, drill requirements, and what happens if a Soldier is activated or deployed. Those details can vary based on the applicant, selected job, unit, and enlistment option.

Bring every question. A local recruiter can walk your family through the timeline and the written details before any decision is made.
