🚨 Meridian Township Police Press Release - Missing Juvenile: Isaac Watkins 🚨

Okemos, MI – At approximately 4:35pm on September 2, 2026, officers responded to a report of a missing juvenile that had not returned home after school. Isaac Watkins was last seen leaving Okemos High School at approximately 2:43pm walking east.

Watkins is a black male, 5’9”, weighing 190 pounds, with short brown hair, brown eyes, born in 2009. He was last seen wearing a light-yellow tee shirt, light blue shorts, and bright blue shoes. He was carrying a navy-blue backpack and had a maroon shirt in his possession.

As we head into fall, mornings are getting darker and the sun is setting earlier. With schools back in session, there is also an increase in traffic and activity on our roads.

If you’re walking, biking, or running, help drivers see you:

💡 Wear bright or reflective clothing, especially during low-light hours.

🚲 Use a front white light and rear red light on your bicycle when riding in low-light or nighttime conditions.

🚶 Use sidewalks and crosswalks whenever available and stay alert around traffic.

👀 Make eye contact with drivers before crossing the road—never assume they see you.

🚗 Drivers, please slow down, stay alert, and watch carefully for pedestrians and bicyclists, particularly near schools and neighborhoods.

A little extra visibility can make a big difference. Let’s all do our part to keep everyone safe as the days get shorter.

🚨 PHONE SCAM ALERT 🚨

A phone scam involving the Meridian Township Police Department has come to our attention.

Several citizens have reported receiving calls from an unknown individual impersonating a Meridian Township Police Officer. The caller claims the citizen is a suspect and demands $1,200 to stay out of trouble.

Please know: The Meridian Township Police Department will NEVER call you and demand money or payment to avoid arrest or criminal charges.

If you receive a suspicious call from someone claiming to be a police officer, do not provide any personal or financial information or send money.

To verify whether a call is legitimate, contact the Ingham County Dispatch Center at 517-332-6526.

Please share this information with family, friends, and neighbors to help prevent others from becoming victims of this scam.

With another school year beginning, here’s a friendly reminder to stay alert during the morning and afternoon commute:

🚌 Watch for flashing bus lights and be prepared to stop.
🚸 Know where school zones begin and end and follow posted speed limits.
🚔 Expect increased law enforcement presence in school zones and around school campuses.

- As students head back to school, it's important to remember a few ways to help keep everyone safe:

✅ Slow Down – Obey school-zone speed limits and stay alert.
Watch for Pedestrians – Children can be unpredictable. Avoid distractions and be prepared to stop.

✅ Follow Crossing Guards – Always obey their signals and instructions.

✅ Stop for School Buses – When red lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended, STOP. Passing is illegal and dangerous.

✅ Keep Crosswalks Clear – Yield to pedestrians and never block crosswalks.

✅ Watch for Student Drivers – Give new and teen drivers extra space and patience.

✅ Be Careful at Drop-Off & Pick-Up – Follow school guidelines, avoid double parking, and have children exit on the curbside.
