Some items that have lithium batteries are pictured here. These should never be put into the trash or recycling as they can create the possibility for a fire. Also, you should take caution when storing these items! Some of these items would fall under metal or electronic collection but please remember to remove the battery and dispose of it properly. If the battery cannot be removed the borough would be unable to take it for disposal. You can dispose of these batteries by taking them to any of the household hazardous waste collection events with in Bergen County. Or visit www.call2recycle.org .

For reference Paramus uses rear loaders and side loaders around town. We also use roll offs for some items but you will most likely not see that on the road.

This week was Public Works appreciation week! The Department of Public works often completes work in house, when able to do so, which saves taxpayers from outsourcing. The DPW also relies on grant funding to cut back on taxpayers funds. While we don’t want to toot our own horn too much, the management staff would like to take a moment to show our appreciation and gratitude to our crews working in the heat, the cold, the rain and sometimes on holidays and weekend too! Thanks to our hardworking employees we are able to get the work done in a timely fashion!

This weekend actually holds a much more somber meaning behind it, but New Jersey uses it as the unofficial start of summer! The weather may not cooperate (what else is new?) but please remember if you have a BBQ this weekend here is a brief list of how to handle your trash/recycling and even left overs! We added a barcode you can scan that will take you to the link to sign up for Neighborhood Compost . Keep in mind that you do have to bring the left overs to the recycle center so if you are not up for doing that just toss it in the trash! If you are interested in ways to reduce your food waste please reach out to Nicole in our main office and she can give you some tips/tricks and ideas!

If you are unsure about what can and cannot be recycled...here are a few places you can find out:

-download Recycle Coach this will not only tell you where items go but will also give you reminder notifications for when to put the items out for your address and also any emergency notices or special notices we put out
-check your town calendar! if you do not have one call us, check the borough website or check Facebook as we post that monthly. Inside the calendar, both the front and the back, is full of helpful information
-check social media: we post information frequently and also include our newsletters
-check the borough website and look for the public works page
-call or email us at 201-265-2100 x 3100 or [email protected]

We wish you could email us on Facebook also but unfortunately we lost access to our business suite. You CAN leave us comments on our photos or posts and we will see and respond to those!

People care about recycling but contamination rates continue to challenge recycling programs across the country. ♻️

A new commentary examines the “intention gap” between what residents want to do and what actually happens at the curb.

The article explores how confusion, system design, and lack of feedback may be contributing more to contamination than a lack of public concern.
