Melvin says he will “cherish this forever.” ❤️🇺🇸

With many of his family members gathered to celebrate him, Melvin Cregeen was honored with a Quilt of Valor in recognition of his service in the United States Navy in 1952.

Melvin, who calls our St. James neighborhood at Perry Lutheran Homes home, was especially pleased with the Pledge of Allegiance, the quilt and certificate, and the love from his family in the room. What a beautiful honor for Melvin and a special moment for his family to share with him!

Our heartfelt thanks to the Perry Iowa Piecemakers Quilt Guild and the Quilts of Valor Foundation for honoring Melvin in such a personal, lasting way. Thank you also to his family, our PLH team members, and everyone who helped make this day possible.

You have given us tongues and breath to flow Your love into hearts. Help us seek to learn more about You and the truth of the cross of Christ, which is Your holy Word, so that we might speak and sing it loudly into the world. Thank you to the community members, board members, congregations, LWML groups, residents, families, staff and friends who joined us for our 70th Anniversary Worship Service and Ice Cream Social!

What a special time of worship and fellowship, celebrating the God-given value of life at every age. Your prayers, support and partnership help carry this ministry forward as we honor generations past, serve those in our care and prepare for generations to come.

Dear Heavenly Father:

For we, your creatures, there are hard things and easy things. Sin is easy, faithfulness hard. You, O Lord, Almighty God of all know hard and easy. Creation is easy. Forgiving disobedient creatures by sending Your own Son to the cross in our stead is the supreme hardship. Enduring with us in fervent love through our human frailties is hard. Your joy will be easy and match ours on the Last Day as all Your people are gathered together as what we are… Your beloved family.
