Governor Kim Reynolds has ordered flags in Iowa to be flown at half-staff effective immediately until sunset on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026, in accordance with a proclamation issued by President Trump as a mark of respect for Dolly Parton, who died Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

“Dolly Parton was so much more than an iconic entertainer—she was a trailblazer, philanthropist, advocate and a genuine inspiration who was loved worldwide,” said Governor Kim Reynolds. “Her success will long be measured by the impact she made in the lives of others. My prayers are with her family and friends.”

Flags will be flown at half-staff on the State Capitol Building and on flag displays in the Capitol Complex. Flags will also be at half-staff on all public buildings, grounds and facilities throughout the state.

Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions are encouraged to fly the flag at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of respect.

It’s the first day of school, Perry! Let’s work together to keep all students safe as they head back to class.

📚 School Hours

Perry Elementary School : 8:05 am – 3:05 pm

Perry Middle School & Perry High School : 7:55 am – 2:50 pm

🚗 Morning & Afternoon Safety Tips

Drive slowly near schools and watch for kids crossing the street.

Stop for school buses when lights are flashing and the stop arm is out.

Keep crosswalks clear and follow directions from crossing guards.

Avoid distracted driving—stay off your phone.

Give yourself extra time; traffic will be heavier than usual.

🚶 Student Reminders

Use sidewalks and crosswalks.

Look both ways before crossing the street.

Stay alert—no headphones while walking near traffic.

If biking, wear a helmet and follow all traffic signs.

Let’s make the first day safe and smooth for everyone.

Your participation can help shape the future of e-mobility! Our partners at the University of Iowa Injury Prevention Research Center need participants for a statewide survey to better understand how kids and teens use e-bikes, e-scooters, and other devices.
👇
To be eligible,
Children must:
· Be between the ages of 10 - 17 years
· Own and use an electronic mobility device (e.g., e-bike, e-scooter, e-skateboard, etc.)

Parents must:
· Be between the ages of 18 - 99 years
· Be a legal guardian of the participating teen

Parents and children who complete the brief online survey will each be mailed a check for their participation.

🎉 Please join us in welcoming our new Recreation Services Coordinator, Sydney Crnkovich!

I am thrilled to begin my new role as Recreation Services Coordinator and look forward to bringing my experience, passion for health and wellness, and love of working with people to this position.

I graduated from Woodward-Granger High School before attending Buena Vista University, where I studied Exercise Science, Physical Education, Coaching, and Health. I spent five years teaching physical education, followed by experience in corrections and dispatch, and most recently worked with the Perry Police Department and City Hall for the past two years. These experiences have given me a diverse background in leadership, communication, organization, and serving my community.

Outside of work, I am a proud mom to two daughters and live in the country with the love of my life, Dylan. ❤️

I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve my community in this new capacity and am excited to create positive, engaging, and meaningful recreation opportunities for people of all ages. Let’s make some great things happen together!
