Sometimes a small amount of support can make a big difference.

We were so happy to recently provide a small grant to help one local family with transportation expenses between Moira and Canton, making it possible for Lolo (pictured here!) to attend a two-week welding program. 🧑‍🏭✨

Opportunities like this are about so much more than learning a new skill, they’re about building confidence, exploring interests, gaining independence, and opening doors for the future.

This is exactly why our grant program exists: to help remove barriers that might otherwise stand in the way of autistic individuals accessing meaningful opportunities in our community.

We are so proud of Lolo for taking on this experience, and we’re grateful that the Autism Alliance could play a small part in helping him get there.

Way to go, Lolo! We can’t wait to see where these new skills take you!

Ana and I had the opportunity to visit Paul Smith’s College today to present to their Resident Advisors about autism awareness, understanding, and inclusion on a college campus.

We talked about what autism can look like in young adults, recognizing that every autistic person is different, and how sensory needs, communication styles, social interactions, executive functioning, and transitions can impact a student’s college experience. Most importantly, we discussed the role RAs can play in creating an environment where autistic students feel welcomed, respected, supported, and included—without expecting them to change who they are in order to belong.

College is such an important step toward independence for many young adults, and having people on campus who understand neurodiversity and are willing to meet students where they are can make an incredible difference.

A huge thank you to Paul Smith’s College for inviting the Autism Alliance of Northeastern NY into this conversation and for recognizing that inclusion starts with education, understanding, and a willingness to learn. We were so grateful to be part of it!

What a wonderful day! ☀️🏖️

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our Autism Alliance Beach Day today! We are so grateful that the weather held out and gave us the chance to spend the afternoon together making memories.

Seeing families connect, kids play, and everyone simply enjoy the day is exactly what these meetups are all about. Thank you to everyone who came out, volunteered, and helped make today such a success. We couldn’t do it without this amazing community.
