Saffron Production Lecture
• Tuesday, November 7, 2023, 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM
Kaitlin Aasen will give a presentation about the basics of Saffron production, including purchasing, cultivation, and plant physiology. She will share her personal experience over the last two years and valuable resources with attendees to help them learn and cultivate saffron for themselves or their business. There will be a workshop in the field following this presentation (November 11, 2023) for hands-on experience (link here for that registration: https://conta.cc/3F2MVQB). This class will be offered in person at CCE Tompkins and simultaneously over Zoom.
Presenter Bio: Kaitlin is a local horticulturist and farmer with an associate degree in Horticulture and is working towards her associate in Sustainable Farming and Food Systems at TC3. She has 10 years of experience in the horticulture and agriculture industries and owns the small business Nates Nursery LLC, based in Scipio Center, NY. She also works as a greenhouse grower at Cornell, this is her second year experimenting with saffron cultivation.

Game of Logging Level 3

The event is sponsored by Essex County Soil and Water Conservation District. We are excited to partner with ProCuts instructor Bill Lindloff and Crown Point Farm & Dairy for this training. Logger Training certificates will be issued at the end upon completion of the course.
GOL 3: Monday, October 2nd, 2023 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Location: Crown Point Farm & Dairy, 344 Hogback Road, Crown Point, N.Y.

The class is capped at 10 participants each. The course fee is $75.00 per person, per class, due upon registration. This is a greatly subsidized fee (typically $165/class) and is non-refundable. To register contact Renee Clark (518-962-8225 or [email protected]) or go online to the Essex County Soil and Water Conservation District website at essexcountyswcd.org, as soon as possible, since these classes fill up fast.

Level 3 focuses on techniques for handling difficult trees. Topics covered include limbing, height measurement, segment calculations, wedging techniques and hinge placement. The felling is done against the tree's natural lean and participants also limb and buck using techniques demonstrated in Level II. Participants must have taken at least Level I.

- Arrive at approximately 7:45 AM
- Bring a Lunch
- Dress for the weather - the entire workshop is held outside in any weather
- Bring all safety gear including but not limited to: hard hat, chaps, ear and eye protection, good boots, gloves.
- Bring your chainsaw.
