Sometimes the best catch… is the one you let swim away. Catch-and-release fishing helps keep Minnesota’s lakes healthy and full of fish for years to come. By carefully releasing fish—especially large breeders—anglers help maintain strong populations of Walleye, Minnesota’s state fish. When practiced properly (wet hands, quick handling, and gentle release), catch and release allows fish to survive and continue growing, spawning, and supporting the future of our fisheries. It's Native Fish Day today AND Walleye fishing opener in Minnesota is tomorrow, May 9! While students were assembling fly rods with our very own Specialist Nick, a nearby angler landed — and released — their first (and biggest!) walleye yet. Thank you, Hue Ye Lee, for sharing this moment with us!

Can you guess which lake this happened on? 👀🎣

Paddle into Spring with us!🌿💧

Our Spring Paddle Club is the perfect way to get back on the water. Over three sessions we’ll explore three different lakes within our Scott County parks while trying out canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards. Whether you’re looking to build skills, meet other paddlers, or simply enjoy a peaceful evening on the water, this club is a great way to welcome the season.

Come for the paddling, stay for the fresh air, wildlife sightings, and good company. Let’s make some waves this spring! 🛶☀️
