Wonderfully Made Student Midwife My name is Abby Williams. I am student midwife working in the Prairie du Chien area. If you are looking for childbirth classes please check out my website.

I have been a doula for 9 years and taught childbirth education for 7 years. I am now in midwifery school full time with the end goal to provide community midwifery in Prairie du Chien, WI and the surrounding areas.

Even before I was pregnant with this baby, my husband and I have discussed if I would pursue another Homebirth. Primarily for financial reasons at this moment, but many other considerations that I’ll dive into more later! Come along with me if you’re interested in a future homebirth midwife’s journey in hospital based care.

August is upon us!! I have 5 more births in primaries (probably will finish in September), my BFF from high school is having her first baby, my husband and I are celebrating our 11 year anniversary, and I’m turning 32! Im looking forward to fall but soaking up the heat and humidity before I start complaining about the cold.

Snacks or no snacks? Red flag or not?? At the end of the day midwives are humans and sometimes we don’t have a good window to leave, but we can be somewhere for 24 hours! I’ve been at births where I go through my two beef sticks, protein bars, and iced coffee in the first six hours… when active labor is just really rolling. My perspective is constantly changing so I’m happy to hear other’s perspective!

The reason I don’t wear white shirts to birth. I guess the vernix would blend in, but the poo and blood would not 😝There were two baby girls born today. One after a transfer, 3rd girl after 5 boys! And the next baby born was also a 3rd girl after 5 boys! This mom went the earliest she had ever gone into labor (41 weeks) and had a beautiful birth. We never want to transfer, but when we have to, we are so grateful for a fantastic hospital team who makes the process as seamless as it can be. And it makes you especially grateful for the births that get to be where mom desires.
