Northern Nevada makes us think of vast desert landscapes, sagebrush and our waterways that hold a regional favorite, trout. From the native Lahontan Cutthroat to wild Brown and Rainbow Trout these aquatic friends have found their way into every corner of the public art collection. Trout hold a special place in the hearts of the community and the artists who make work paying homage to the wild and native wildlife that bring our waterways alive.

Tonight was the artist reception for 2026 Reno City Artist Joanna Drakos’ solo exhibition, “The Audacity of Daydreaming,” at the Metro Gallery on the ground floor of City Hall!

Guests gathered to experience Drakos’ nonrepresentational abstract work, which uses color, line, shape and texture to express feelings and ideas beyond recognizable imagery.

You can experience “The Audacity of Daydreaming” for free through Aug. 21 at the Metro Gallery, located on the first floor of Reno City Hall. Stop by Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to see it for yourself!

Did you know that the City of Reno programs window galleries on the side of the Reno Ballroom and Reno Events Center? Since the program began, we have worked with local college professors to display student artwork.
This year we partnered with University of Nevada Reno Art Department Professors showing Arhen Hertel’s painting program students and Neda Khalafi’s Package Design and Branding Class. Check out all the 18 student artworks in person now on Lake Street & University Way!

Reno artist Lily Cooper’s video artwork, “The Pie” is now on view at the Canyon Flats video wall.

“The Pie” is a short lighthearted claymation animation about a dog, a cat and an apple pie. Lily Cooper is an artist in Reno who primarily creates art as a painter but also makes documentaries and animations.

The Canyon Flats building is located at 661 N Center St, Reno, NV 89503. The video wall is located on the exterior side of the building on Virginia St. and is on a loop and available for viewing 24/7.

Happy 4th of July Reno! As America celebrates 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, we are looking back at this massive mural “Reno Tapestry” painted by Mauricio Ramirez on the side of the Public Safety Center in 2025. With a ton of community input helping inform the design, Mauricio’s mural celebrates the spirit of Reno using symbolic imagery to represent the harmony of cultures and generations that make up Reno's identity.
