A new Gun Trace Data Report from Brady United found that most crime guns recovered by the Rochester Police Department between 2022 and September 2025 originated from out-of-state gun dealers, primarily in Ohio, Georgia, and Florida. The report also identified a growing share of crime guns traced to New York State—particularly Monroe County—and noted an increase in privately manufactured “ghost guns” made using technologies such as 3D printing. City officials say the findings will help inform strategies to further reduce gun violence and illegal firearm trafficking in Rochester.
