"Your mental health matters because you matter." 💙 — Haley DeGreve

Last night, we hosted our 3rd Annual Youth Mental Health Forum, bringing together young people, advocates, and community members for important conversations about grief, athletics, healing, and mental wellness.

Thank you to Miss LaToya Trice, Young Lions Roar, Deliveredqc, and Haley DeGreve of The Gray Matters Collective for helping create a space where young people felt seen, heard, and supported.

This is what youth empowerment looks like. 💙⚽

What began at ThePlace2B as a way to help students build confidence, connection, and leadership through soccer has grown into an officially registered Illinois soccer team!

We are so proud of YWCA FC, the coaches, staff, and every athlete who has worked hard to make this possible. Your growth on and off the field is inspiring to watch. 👏🔥

Way to represent YWCA QC and ThePlace2B! A special thank you to our amazing sponsors: Hughes Homes, Jorge Segoviano, DJ BFLO, Life By Seasons, and Rituels lunaires!

💙 We’re proud to share this story that happened at ThePlace2B.

At the heart of our work is something simple but powerful —relationships built on trust, safety, and care. Because of those connections, a student felt comfortable enough to open up to our mentors about challenges at home, allowing our team to step in and provide meaningful support.

This is what ThePlace2B is all about: making sure young people feel seen, heard, and supported by trusted adults who truly care.

✨What makes ThePlace2B so special isn’t just the programming, it’s the relationships, trust, and sense of safety that grow between students and mentors.

We recently saw a powerful example of that in action. Because of the safe and genuine relationships crafted by our staff, a student felt comfortable enough to open up to one of our TP2B mentors about a challenge they were facing at home. That moment of trust allowed us to step in and connect them with support, including helping provide a bed and bedding for their home.

While we’re grateful we could help meet a basic need, what stands out most is something even more meaningful: a young person felt safe enough to speak honestly and be heard.

That is the heart of ThePlace2B, creating a space where students know there are caring, trusted adults who will listen, support, and walk alongside them without judgment. It is what makes ThePlace2B more than just an after-school program.
Every young person deserves that kind of support system, and we’re honored to help build it. 🧡

🌱 BIG THINGS ARE GROWING THIS SUMMER! 🌱

This summer, ThePlace2B is launching a Youth Community Lawn Care Team, giving students the opportunity to earn money, build valuable job skills, learn responsibility, and make a positive impact right here in our community.

To help get this program rolling, we’re looking for gently used, safe lawn care equipment for our students to use, especially lawn mowers! If you have equipment collecting dust in your garage or shed, we would love to give it a second life and put it to great use.

Your donation helps invest directly in local youth and their future. 🙌

📞 Have something to donate? Contact Edwin Salazar at 309-350-2397.

Together, we can help our youth grow confidence, independence, and opportunity one yard at a time. 🌿

What you don’t see behind the game… matters. 🧠💬

In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re diving into a conversation that doesn’t get talked about enough—mental health in athletics.

On this episode of The Power of the W, we’re joined by Bella McDaniel, a young changemaker who turned her own struggles into something powerful. At just 17, she started a nonprofit after facing the reality so many athletes know but rarely say out loud: feeling lost, overwhelmed, and battling mental health.

Bella opens up about it all and why creating safe spaces for athletes to speak up could change everything.

This episode is raw, real, and a reminder that strength isn’t staying silent.

🎧 Tune in now and join the conversation. Because no one should have to struggle alone. https://ywcaqc.org/power-of-the-w-podcast/
