As we continue to see ICE raids in our communities, I want to highlight the work that’s being done in the State Assembly to strengthen public safety and reject the Trump Administration’s failed immigration policies.

In the California State Assembly, we’ve passed nearly two dozen bills that reaffirm our commitment to keep all Californians safe at schools, businesses, hospitals, and childcare centers. In fact, we’ve led the nation in holding ICE accountable and fighting back against unconstitutional efforts designed to terrorize immigrant families and communities of color.

When the Trump Administration argues that ICE violence and killings are simply agents ā€œdoing their jobs,ā€ we’re saying firmly: not in California.

The bills passed by the Assembly and now moving through the California State Senate empower California law enforcement to investigate federal agent killings, impose new levies on detention centers, require disclosures when ICE is present in our communities, prevent locals from assisting in immigration raids, and bar former ICE agents from positions of authority.

California can’t solve its housing crisis without building more homes. Our state’s housing crisis demands action that lowers costs, speeds construction, and expands opportunities for homeownership.

AB 306 helps bring predictability to housing construction by reforming the statewide appeals process for building code interpretations and disputes.

AB 939 promotes affordable homeownership by eliminating red tape and arbitrary timelines that otherwise keep affordable housing units vacant.

Together, these bills focus on what matters: building more homes, lowering barriers, and creating more pathways to ownership for Californians.

Congratulations to the YWCA of Glendale and Pasadena on celebrating 100 years of service to our communities!

It was an honor to join you last weekend and to commemorate the occasion with a joint resolution of the California State Legislature.

This milestone is significant. YWCA have evolved and have included a shelter for women, health education and wellness classes for women, youth development programs, community dialogue groups to discuss race relations, children’s programs, emergency shelter, and services for survivors of domestic violence.

Looking forward to what you accomplish in the next 100 years!
