Back-to-school season is officially here, and so are scammers! 🎒

Before you finish your school prep, protect your wallet with these tips:

•Use a credit card for online shopping. It gives you the best protection against fraudulent charges.

•Government agencies won't text or call you out of the blue to demand your FAFSA login or SSN, or to offer random grant money. Real grant notifications almost always come by mail.

•Before paying for an unexpected retail or fundraising offer, call your student's school directly to confirm it's legit.

If you have been the victim of a scam or fraudulent activity, please contact our Utah Division of Consumer Protection .

Utah is taking this unique, proactive approach to the rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence.

At the One Utah Conference today in Cedar City, Commissioner Margaret Busse, alongside the Governor's Office of Economic Development Commissioner Jeff Moss, discussed Utah’s "Pro-Human AI Initiative.”

Utah is setting a new standard by ensuring AI remains human-guided and human-enhancing. By prioritizing human dignity and agency, we’re treating AI as an amplifier of human potential, ensuring that technology strengthens our workforce, communities, and industries while keeping people in the driver’s seat.

That investment tip your gym buddy gave you? Unlike leg day, you should skip it, unless they’re a licensed financial advisor. Affinity fraud often uses trust and friendship against you. Before you hand over money, always research and verify the license with our Utah Division of Securities.
