From 3 team members to a $40M valuation — scaling innovation right here in Utah, starting at the One Utah Summit.

Utah is built for entrepreneurs who want to make an impact. Local biotech startup 3Helix started as a 3-person team developing targeted research tools to understand damaged collagen. At the time of their pitch at 2024’s One Utah Summit, they had just closed a seed round. Today, they’ve expanded into a full-scale biotech company valued at around $40 million.

Ideated and built in Utah, 3Helix is committed to growing locally and serving as a pillar of the community. In addition to developing transformative health solutions, they are also generating well-paid, purpose-driven employment opportunities for Utahns.

Watch how founder passion and Utah’s supportive startup ecosystem come together to build a world-class enterprise, with opportunities at the One Utah Summit and now with The Nucleus Institute and Nucleus Fund.

Congratulations to Intermountain Electronics, Inc. (IE) on being named Business of the Year at the One Utah Summit.

Homegrown in Price, Utah, IE is instrumental in scaling massive power and other infrastructure across North America — but ask Chairman John Houston or CEO Bobby Houston, and they’ll tell you their real powerhouse is their people and the industrious history and culture of Carbon County.

Beyond bringing hundreds of high-paying technical roles to rural Utah, IE is reinvesting directly into its workforce and community — building employee housing and partnering with local colleges and secondary schools to train the workforce they and other businesses need.

Huge win for this team, Price, Carbon County, and the future of Utah! 👏

ICYMI — Utah is leading the nation in economic strength and fiscal stability. This week, the U.S. News & World Report named us the top state in America for the fourth consecutive year, based on performance in eight categories.

Looking deeper, Utah ranked second for economy — a reflection of our pro-business, pro-founder environment and our long-term commitment to innovation.

That commitment is reflected in our strategic plan, which outlines our belief that economic development is about more than numbers. It's about expanding opportunity while preserving the quality of life that makes Utah unique.

By leveraging and strengthening our social, human, and physical capital, we're building an economy rooted in trust and collaboration, powered by Utah's talented workforce, and supported by the infrastructure and resources communities need to thrive.

Doing this right also requires stability. While most states excelled in either long-term or short-term fiscal stability, Utah broke the pattern by placing at fifth across the board — showcasing the reliable systems that make our state the best place to build in.

When state and local partners move in the same direction, incredible things happen for Utah.

Today, at the annual Association of Governments retreat, stakeholders from GOED’s housing, tourism, and rural outreach teams were given the opportunity to detail our strategic plan to leadership from Utah’s seven AOGs.

This framework, built through months of deliberation and collaboration, aims to enhance and coordinate state economic development — helping to position Utah as a united, innovative, and opportunity-rich place where future generations can thrive.

Acting as a proactive coordinator, convenor, and catalyzer for statewide economic development, GOED aims to quarterback opportunities, both for our skilled and resilient Utahns, and outside players considering bringing their businesses here.

As we celebrate Pioneer Day, it’s worth remembering that Utah’s earliest builders weren’t just settling a valley; they were creating an innovation ecosystem that has never ceased evolving.

From irrigation, transportation, and communications infrastructure to establishing higher education and a robust financial ecosystem, generations of Utahns have found innovative means to build communities and create prosperity.

Not every idea succeeded, but the early Utahns' willingness to experiment, take risks, and collaborate still benefits us nearly 180 years later.

Progress has not come from getting everything right; rather, it has been driven by people willing to solve the problems in front of them, learn from what didn’t work, embrace new ideas, and create opportunity for future generations.

Happy Utah 🎉

What’s different about the Utah Elevated economic development plan?

For starters, it doubles down on one of our greatest strengths: our cultural inclination to collaborate. In the plan, GOED acts as a guide for the entrepreneurs, businesses, and industries that drive our state’s economy forward.

Rather than owning every piece of economic development, we focus on quarterbacking opportunities — bringing together the people, organizations, programs, and investments that help create lasting impact.
