Our innovative, forward-thinking Pk-12 school will be open to any curious, self-motivated learner looking for academic challenges and the option of accelerated learning. It will be located across two campuses, opening with kindergarten through 3th grades housed at the site of the former Austin Academy, 621 W Euclid Ave., and the majority of the grades, 4th through 10th, at nearby Fox Tech High School, 637 N. Classrooms will not be defined by grade or age but instead will serve as creative centers for students of similar levels of achievement. Students will alternate between individual and collaborative learning to tackle in-depth problems that require them to apply knowledge from across multiple subjects. And because we don’t want to hamper momentum when students are on a roll with a particular project or assignment, we will forgo a bell schedule. By eliminating some of the traditional boundaries, the advanced learning academy will be a place where hearts and minds truly can soar.

We are excited to invite all 6th–8th grade students to our annual Middle School Dance! The middle school dance will be held on Friday, October 2nd, from 4:30–6:30 PM. The week of the dance, we are also inviting all ALA middle school students to participate in a fun Dress-Up Spirit Week! Each day will have a different theme, giving students the opportunity to show their school spirit and build excitement leading up to the dance. Thank you to our 8th Grade Teachers & Students for leading the organization of these events for our students.

Our 8th - 12th Grade Gators are Back event is tonight, Tuesday, 9/22, from 4:30 to 6:30 PM! This event is a chance to meet with teachers, check on your students progress, and learn what’s ahead this year!

Our Annual Title 1 meeting will also be held tonight at 4:30 PM and will highlight important information for families.

Congratulations to ALA educator Lara Eklund on being selected for a prestigious Fulbright Teacher Exchange Award for the 2026-2027 academic year! Lara Eklund has been a teacher at ALA for ten years. She teaches 6th Grade Math at the ALA at Tech campus and also serves as the ALA at Tech Lead Math Department Chair for 4th-12th Grade. Fulbright provides opportunities for exceptional Americans and participants from 160 countries and locations to study, teach, and conduct research abroad. Through this highly competitive program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Lara will engage in an international educational exchange and bring innovative practices and global perspectives back to our ALA school community. The program will also include a graduate level global education course, a Global Education Symposium and a final capstone project. We are incredibly proud of her outstanding achievement and the way in which she will represent ALA on the global stage.

Thank you to all our wonderful families for attending our Gators Are Back Open House at ALA Primary!

It was fantastic seeing everyone in our halls! Families had the opportunity to connect with their child's homeroom teacher and explore two engaging breakout sessions of their choice, covering: • Specials & Loose Parts Play • Volunteer Information & Title I Details • RULER & Body Safe Presentations • New to the Village Orientation

Our kindergarteners put on their observation hats in science class this week!

Our young learners practiced essential scientific skills by observing everyday objects and sorting them by color, shape, and size. Categorizing objects helps students spot patterns, make predictions, and build foundational critical thinking skills that they will use in science all year long!

Our young scientists explored gas and buoyancy by dropping raisins into cups of sparkling water. They observed how tiny carbon dioxide bubbles are attached to the wrinkled surface of each raisin, acting like tiny life jackets to carry them up to the top! Once the bubbles popped at the surface, the raisins sank back down, starting the dance party all over again!

Way to go, 1st grade, for asking great questions and making learning so much fun!

Our 2nd graders are officially starting their Drawing Unit in art class!

Last week, our young artists focused on learning how to give flat paper a sense of 3D depth by identifying three key layers in artwork:
1️⃣ Foreground (closest to the viewer)
2️⃣ Middle ground (in the center)
3️⃣ Background (farthest away)

Students did a fantastic job putting their new vocabulary to work while analyzing different pieces of art! Over the coming weeks, they will apply these skills to design and draw their very own scenes showing rich depth and perspective. We can't wait to see their final masterpieces!

Our 3rd graders kicked off their first Project-Based Learning (PBL) unit of the year with an exciting, hands-on field trip to historical San Pedro Springs Park!

To discover their big unit topic, students embarked on a park-wide scavenger hunt. Working in small groups with our wonderful parent chaperones, students solved six different puzzles and riddles hidden throughout the park. Each solved puzzle unlocked a clue poster, allowing students to record key words and phrases.

Once all 6 clues were collected, the teams sorted their words together to reveal the official driving question for their PBL project! How can we, as authors, uncover and share stories about our community?
