On October 3, 2026, at approximately 0959 hours, Ventura Communications Center (VCC) received a call of a traffic crash involving a white van which went down the cliff into the ocean on SR-1 northbound, south of Deer Creek Road. At approximately 1015 hours, Ventura Area CHP personnel arrived on scene and located the white van down the cliff, upright on all four wheels, partially in the ocean.
The driver of the white van was traveling northbound on SR-1, south of Deer Creek Road. For reasons still under investigation, the driver traveled onto the right dirt shoulder of the highway. The van lost control and entered the southbound lane of SR-1, went onto the dirt shoulder, and traveled down the cliff, overturned, and landed upright. The driver sustained minor injuries from the crash.
Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
The crash and recovery of the van forced CHP and State Parks to provide traffic control for approximately three hours while the was van recovered from the ocean by a rotator tow truck.
This crash is being investigated by the CHP Ventura Area office. Any potential witnesses that have not already given their statements to an investigating officer or have potential dash camera footage are encouraged to contact the CHP Ventura.
